Handwriting without Tears PreK Curriculum

Children will joyfully learn handwriting readiness skills with Handwriting Without Tears' Pre-Kindergarten Kit that includes My First School Book. Students will learn to develop crucial readiness and pre-writing skills such as:

  • Social-emotional activities for school readiness
  • Basic habits for letter and number formation
  • Music and movement
  • Building and drawing
  • Unique crayon strokes
  • Color and shape activities

The set of capital letter cards is designed to be used with Wood Pieces Set for Capital Letters. Cards show the correct formation of capital letters with size, shape, and position concepts. Following the teacher's example, students place wood pieces on the Mat to make capital letters. The mat and wood pieces can also be used with the Mat Man Hands to create the "Mat Man!"

The set of Roll-a-Dough letters will help address more senses than writing alone, helping children develop correct formation, spacing, sequencing, and other writing skills. Children will create capital letters using hands-on magnetic stamps. The Stamp and See magnetic screen comes with a writing tool, eraser slide, and magnetic letter-piece stamps; it promotes important fine motor skills and lets children form letters/numbers on their own.

Teach your students letter formations and placement of letters on double lines with hands-on slate chalkboard activities. The sets of little sponges and little chalk pieces are also included.

Kick Start Kindergarten bridges the gap between PreK and K with developmental, multisensory handwriting instruction that introduces capital and lowercase letters through tracing and early writing exercises.

This program is designed to be intuitive, engaging, and developmentally progressive with children actively participating through movement, talking, and singing. Lessons introduce posture and grip, capitals, lowercase letters/words/sentences, and numbers.

Lessons are easy-to-use and includes an objective, a lesson introduction, the student workbook page number, QR codes for multimedia elements, reduced-size student pages, and a detailed lesson plan with enrichment, support/ELL notes, and cross-curricular connections at the bottom. The back of the book includes more detailed instructions for the multisensory activities. The online resources referenced throughout are available for free during a 30-day trial only; after which there is a subscription charge to access them.

This curriculum can be supplemented with the wood pieces set for capital letters, capital letter cards and mat for wood pieces, Rock, Rap, Tap & Learn CD, slate chalkboard and blackboard with double lines, little chalkboard, eraser cubes, and chalk pieces, Flip Crayons, and Pencils for Little Hands.
