LFBC Literature

Designed for first grade students, this kit features Landmark Christian Academy's two Literature workbooks (one for each semester), as well as McGuffey's First Eclectic Reader and loose-leaf answers, weekly quizzes, and quiz answers. A scope and sequence is provided; weekly lessons are based upon the McGuffey Reader, with the workbook pages providing practical application and further grammatical instruction. Students will learn about contractions, compound words, phonics, basic sentences, syllables, suffixes and prefixes, and more. The weekly quizzes contain a variety of exercises that mirror the kinds of problems students complete throughout the workbooks. Integrated Bible verses, the old-fashioned charm of the McGuffey reader's stories & historic illustrations, and wholesome examples, make for a gentle introduction to literary skills.

The McGuffeys recall an America where honesty, hard work, kindness, patience, obedience to authority, fairness, gentleness, and frugality were traits to be admired. This we emphasize in our literature program. The upper grades study character-building favorites, stories, biographies and classics, including John Bunyan's The Pilgrim's Progress and The Holy War. Grade 5 includes a paperback copy of McGuffey's Fifth Reader (for grades 5-7), Student workbook and tests with an answer key.
