Memoria Press - Latina Christiana I

Latina Christiana I is a great first foray into Latin for younger students! Designed for children in grades 3-6, Cheryl Lowe's clear explanations, easy instructions, and step-by-step approach have helped teachers (even those with no background in Latin!) and students learn to love Latin. After completing this course, students will be ready to move into the Memoria Press "First Form Latin" series.

The student book includes 25 lessons and 5 review lessons; each includes a grammar form, 10 vocabulary words per lesson with corresponding English derivatives and Latin sayings. Students will learn to translate phrases, learn about grammar, complete sentences with the appropriate derivative, conjugate verbs, decline nouns, and more. An optional history component (drill questions and a history test) is designed to be used with the Famous Men of Rome reading selections (not included).

The Teacher Manual's introductory section provides an overview of pronunciation rules, grammar, student goals, and general teaching guidelines with explanations of the lesson components. The lesson plan section has reduced-size student pages with the correct answers overlaid for easy grading. The margins surrounding the student pages are filled with lesson notes, including lesson openings and semi-scripted lessons that cover Latin sayings, grammar, word study, derivatives, recitation, and review. A history guide provides maps and answers to the history questions given in the back of the student book. Quizzes and tests along with quiz/test answers are also included.

The pronunciation CD includes complete verbal pronunciations for each lesson along with prayers and songs such as the Benedic Domine (Table Blessing), Pater Noster (Lord's Prayer), Adeste Fideles, Dona Nobis Pacem

The flashcards are pre-cut and cover vocabulary (Latin, lesson number, and any derivative, on one side; English on the other), Latin sayings (Latin and lesson number on one side, English on the other), and grammar forms (cue word, lesson number, and form name on one side; Latin forms on the other). Note that for the lesson number on the vocabulary cards, the Latina Christiana I lesson number is listed first, followed by the Prima Latina lesson number in parentheses, e.g. "1 (PL 4)."
