Cottage Press Language Lessons homeschool curriculum is a Classical, Charlotte-Mason inspired liberal arts curriculum that immerses students in the great books and great ideas of Western Civilization through reading classic poetry, prose, and Scripture selections. | Primer 1 (Autumn/Winter/Spring) is designed for Grades 2-3, Primer 2 (Autumn/Winter/Spring) is designed for Grades 3-4, and Fable & Song for students in Grades 4-6.

Cottage Press' Primer One Teaching Helps is designed to be used alongside the (not-included) Primer One Autumn, Primer One Winter, and Primer One Spring student books (all sold-separately). This teacher's guide includes twelve weekly lessons for each of those books with each weekly lesson covering four days of work. Lessons open with a poetry or prose selection that becomes the heart of the lesson; this is followed by copybook & dictation exercises, a section for supplemental Spelling, Grammar, and Word Usage exercises, and finally a nature study assignment. Lessons are formatted with daily copybook exercises and a brief grammar or phonics review exercise in addition to narration exercises on Days 1 and 3, a nature lesson study on Day 2, and a picture study lesson on Day 4. Answers are given if needed.

Detailed instructions for conducting copybook, grammar, and composition exercises along with literary & poetry analysis are included at the beginning of this teacher's guide. Lessons include the poetry or prose selection, notes and teacher tips, and answers for the questions given in the student book.

Twenty-eight lessons are centered on a timeless literary or poetry selection-twelve fables from Aesop, twelve poems (mostly from Robert Louis Stevenson), and four parables of Jesus from the Bible. This course introduces basic sentence diagramming and beginning studies in poetry, literary terms, and figures of speech.

Book of Centuries Timeline Book

The Book of Centuries is a blank timeline book for Cottage Press students to record the major events and people they encounter in their study of history, literature, science, art, and music. Each page has lined sections for lists on the inside of the page and blank sections for sketching on the outside half of the page.

This book includes:

  • Two pages per century from 5000 B.C. to A.D. 1500

  • Two pages per half-century from A.D. 1500 - A.D. 1800
  • Two pages per twenty years from A.D. 1800 - A.D. 1900
  • Two pages per decade from A.D. 1900 - A.D. 2030
  • Three undated two-page spreads at the beginning for flexibility in dating events from Creation to the Flood; spreads are titled: "In the Beginning," "Men Began to Multiply," and "A Flood of Water"
  • One two-page spread for the life of Christ titled "In the Fullness of Time"
