French for Children will help your children learn more than just common words and phrases! This classically-based curriculum features creative immersion-style dialogues and vocabulary to teach the language thoroughly, while the text emphasizes grammar and the parts of speech as vital to correctly speaking and understanding French; in addition lively chants are employed to aid memorizing grammar and vocab.
Students and teachers follow a basic weekly schedule that can be modified as needed; lessons guide students through listening to dialogue audio as they read the text-based transcript, paradigms (grammar chants), approximately 10 vocabulary words per week, video, comprehension questions, worksheets, and a weekly quiz with dictation exercise. The text is written directly to the student in a friendly and engaging tone, with detailed explanations of tricky concepts and plenty of translation and conjugation worksheets to help students remember it all. By the end of the course, students should have learned 153 commonly used vocabulary words and 43 conversational words and phrases, plus be familiar with grammatical concepts such as verb conjugation, tense, and noun gender.
Please Note: most content refers to audio pronunciation tracks and certain exercises (like the dictation) require the French for Children Primer A Audio. The audio for Pronunciation Wizard, dialogues, Say it Aloud exercises, and dictees is available for free at the publisher's website - these free files do NOT include grammar chants, complete vocabulary, or Conversation Journal words and phrases. The (sold-separately and not-included) French for Children DVDs & Chant CD set includes the videos referred to in the text as well as pronunciation wizard audio, dialogues, grammar chants, complete vocabulary, Conversation Journal words and phrases, Say it Aloud exercises, dictees, and more.
Seventeen weekly chapters are included; 13 are content and four are review. At the rate of one chapter per week, students will finish this course in half a year (one semester), though at the rate of one content chapter every two weeks, and each review chapter taking one week, the course can be finished in a year. Detailed weekly schedules are provided for both tracks.
The appendices contain dialogue and chant translations, a preposition appendix, and a verb appendix with verb conjugation, plus a glossary.
