Latin Alive Reader
The Latin Alive: Reader from Classical Academic Press is at the level students work towards attaining in their Latin studies-the level where they have the ability to spend time translating original Latin writings instead of primarily studying grammar. This reader will familiarize students with Latin writings that extend from the days of Cicero (50 BC) to Isaac Newton (1687). Readings span genres (poetry, science, philosophy, theology, biography, myth, and fable are all included) and vary in length, complexity, style, and content.
Each chapter begins with a reference for the complete work and a short introductory paragraph; readings are followed by notes for unusual words or forms, comprehension questions, and "About the Author" and "Culture Corner" sections which tell students more about the authors, their times, and the events surrounding the readings. "Scribamus!" sections provide writing assignments as well.
This book also contains a variety of helpful resources, including a summary of grammar and a poetry appendix that reviews the styles of Latin poetry, as well as a Medieval Latin appendix that notes changes in the Latin of the Medieval and later eras. The addendum readings include passages from the AP Latin syllabus and are helpful for a pre-AP course.
254 non-reproducible pages, softcover. Designed for students who have completed Latin Alive 1-3.
This Latin Alive! Reader Teacher's Edition accompanies the sold-separately Latin Alive Reader. The student text is reproduced here, with bolded notes for teachers inserted where necessary. Answer sections follow the student questions for easy chapter-by-chapter grading. 254 pages, softcover.
