Apologia Exploring Creation with Chemistry

Apologia Chemistry homeschool curriculum covers measurement & units, atoms & molecules, atomic structure, molecular structure, polyatomic ions and molecular geometry, stoichiometry, acid-base chemistry, thermodynamics, kinetics, chemical equilibrium, and more. Grade 10 / 3rd Edition.

Give your student a firm understanding of the basics of chemistry with Apologia's Exploring Creation with Chemistry, 3rd Edition textbook. Sixteen modules cover measurement & units, atoms & molecules, atomic structure, molecular structure, polyatomic ions and molecular geometry, stoichiometry, acid-base chemistry, thermodynamics, kinetics, chemical equilibrium, and more. Lessons integrate "on your own" questions to check for review and comprehension throughout the lesson, as well as examples, tables, and images where helpful. Modules end with a "study guide" that includes review questions and practice questions, along with answers to the "on your own" questions.

The solutions manual contains answers to the module practice problems, extra practice problems, review questions, and includes both the tests and test answers. The test booklet contain the same tests that are in the solutions manual, but are presented in perforated-booklet format to make them easy to tear out and give to students.

The Exploring Creation with Chemistry Student Notebook is divided into sections that correspond to the text. First, an introduction provides rubrics, notes and schedules. This is followed by each module's notebooking pages, which include blank note-taking pages along with room to answer the "on your own" questions, study guide questions, and extra practice problems. This is followed by the "Experiments" section, which features lab reports for every experiment in the text; forms include the objective, materials needed, primary question for the experiment, and procedure, as well as room to record the student's hypothesis, data, and observations. Finally there's a brief section on creating and interpreting graphs, which will help students understand how to create accurate and appropriate line graphs from data, and also how to interpret the most common line graphs. A complete daily schedule breaks down the text, notebook pages, tests, and experiments into weekly and daily blocks; following the schedule will enable students to finish the course in 34 weeks.

Grade 10. Prerequisites: Students must be proficient at an Algebra math level.

This kit includes:

  • Exploring Creation with Chemistry textbook, 651 pages, indexed with glossary, softcover. Scripture taken from the ESV.

  • Solutions & Tests for Exploring Creation with Chemistry & Test Booklet for Exploring Creation with Chemistry, 3rd Edition
  • Exploring Creation with Chemistry Student Notebook; 608 pages, softcover, spiralbound. Scripture is from the NIV and NLT. Non-reproducible, consumable student workbook.

Sixteen modules cover measurement & units, atoms & molecules, atomic structure, molecular structure, polyatomic ions and molecular geometry, stoichiometry, acid-base chemistry, thermodynamics, kinetics, chemical equilibrium, and more.

Experiments are designed for home-use, though some more "specialized" equipment is required; they include measuring specific heat, discovering the electrical conductivity of compounds dissolved in water, measuring the width of a molecule, exploring freezing point depression, using the ideal gas equation, recognizing the effects of catalysts, and more.

Lessons integrate "on your own" questions to check for review and comprehension throughout the lesson, as well as examples, tables, and images where helpful. Modules end with a "study guide" that includes review questions and practice questions, along with answers to the "on your own" questions.

Each of the 16 modules should take students approximately 2 weeks to complete at 1 hour of study per day at a minimum; the course itself should take 32 weeks to complete.

This revised 3rd edition features more in-depth discussions and explanations of concepts along with biographical sketches of Christian artists. List of needed lab supplies included. Scripture taken from the ESV. Recommended for 10th Grade.

The included softcover solutions manual contains answers to the module practice problems, extra practice problems, review questions, and includes both the tests and test answers. The tests booklet contain the same tests that are in the solutions manual, but are presented in pe rforated-booklet format to make them easy to tear out and give to students.
