Former counterterrorism official Elizabeth Neumann examines her beliefs about how American evangelicalism became entangled with right-wing extremism, ultimately contributing to the January 6 Capitol attack and threatening the moral integrity of the Church itself. Drawing from her career in Homeland Security, Neumann reveals how domestic threats—particularly from white nationalists and radicalized Christians—eclipsed foreign terrorism, prompting her to resign and sound public warnings about rising violence. She argues that while policy change is necessary, meaningful reform must begin within the Church and its communities to counter the distorted narratives fueling hate and division.
