Christian Living Book List: Favorite Bible Studies

This booklist features our favorites and several popular Bible studies on various topics or books of the Bible. Use our expertise to select the perfect Bible study for your personal use or with a small group.

Most of us have only encountered the Sermon on the Mount in fragments, considering its subdivisions as complete teachings in their own right-a study on blessedness; a reflection on the Lord's Prayer; a discussion of religious devotion, money, ambition, and relationships.

What if we navigated these three chapters in Matthew as they were originally heard? What if we read them as one cohesive, well-ordered message, intended to challenge us to think differently about what it means to be a follower of Jesus?

This 9-session study from Jen Wilkin invites you to do just that. Come and learn from Jesus, just as His disciples did. First released in 2014, this study is now updated with new teaching videos from Jen Wilkin. Features:

  • Verse-by-verse study of Jesus's Sermon on the Mount for group or individual study
  • 8 weeks of personal study (in between study sessions) featuring illuminating questions to help you focus on and understand Scripture
  • 9 teaching videos, approximately 35-45 minutes, available via redemption code printed in the Bible study book _
  • Yips for leading a Bible study group and weekly discussion guides

Connect with God by Delighting in His Word

Our lives feel stuffed to the brink, overrun by work and home responsibilities, overwhelmed by jam-packed schedules, and overly distracted by the siren call of our smartphones. It's no wonder that we struggle to spend time in God's Word, or that when we do, we don't know where to start. Instead of a momentary delight, we need soul-satisfying sustenance from our Bible reading that fuels our deep longing to grow in godliness.

In Sweeter than Honey, Gretchen Saffles and Maggie Combs of Well-Watered Women teach us the value of studying God’s Word while providing the tools to apply it to your life. Discover three principles that can be applied every time you open God’s Word: gather knowledge, digest the big ideas, and grow in godliness. As you develop these principles, you’ll experience the challenging but transformative work of building a deeper relationship with God through the pages of his Word.

In this Bible study, designed for both individuals and groups, readers will:

  • Learn how to study Scripture to build trust and intimacy with God
  • Find different study methods for the various seasons of life
  • Understand the importance of context, genre, and Biblical theology
  • Grow in their love for God’s life-changing Word
Sweeter than Honey will encourage you to cultivate both discipline and delight in God's Word, growing your confidence to engage with Scripture in a refreshed and transformative way.

Our God Is Faithful

While the name of God may not be mentioned in the book of Esther, its pages highlight His work among His people and foreshadow Jesus’s very ministry to us—darkness to light, mourning to celebration, death to life.

In this 7-session study for teenage girls, Kelly Minter invites you into the daring faith modeled by Esther and her cousin Mordecai—a faith developed over time, rooted in the goodness of God, lived out through extraordinary circumstances, and used to change the world. Although our time looks different from Esther’s, our God is just as active and faithful today, and He has called you for such a time as this.
Features:

  • Verse-by-verse Bible study of the book of Esther
  • Content that explores the historical context of Esther’s day
  • 7 group sessions and 6 weeks of personal Bible study
  • Leader Guide in the back of the Bible study book to guide questions and discussion with small groups
  • Biblically rooted and gospel-centered
  • Personal study opportunities for ongoing spiritual growth

While confined to house arrest, the apostle Paul wrote a letter to the Colossian church and to the man who hosted the church in his house. Paul's words brought clarity to confusion, hope where there was fear, and called for unity amid this especially diverse congregation. His letters were not only reminders for them, but also for modern readers in the church today, of the eternal impact of Christ's life, death, and resurrection.
