We all go through seasons of struggle and testing. Regardless of our faith and our faithfulness to the Lord, adversity comes to us all.
In God, Help Me Overcome My Circumstances, Michael Youssef draws principles from the book of Judges that help us understand how our difficult seasons of life lead to spiritual growth and maturity. We may fear and dislike the circumstances we are in, but they are temporary and serve a positive purpose. They are meant to
- unmask our pride in our own abilities
- break down our self-sufficiency
- reinforce our utter dependence on God
Dr. Youssef reminds us that when setbacks come, it's not time to fear or question why. It's time to recommit ourselves in faith to God and learn to depend more fully on Him.
Michael Youssef received theological degrees from Moore College in Australia, Fuller Theological Seminary in California, and a PhD in social anthropology from Emory University. He traveled around the world on behalf of the Haggai Institute, speaking to thousands of leaders. In 1987 he founded The Church of the Apostles in Atlanta, Georgia, which served as a platform for Leading the Way’s international television and radio ministry, where Dr. Youssef is heard daily by millions at home and in over 190 countries.

GOD, HELP ME OVERCOME MY CIRCUMSTANCES
I love the cover of this book. The two cliffs on each side are like going out West to see where the old days of long ago where started. It is so beautiful to feel the ground below you and see the high cliffs above you and the blue sky in between. I wonder why he picked the cliffs for the front cover.
This book draws principles from the book of Judges, one of the important books of the Bible, wouldnt you say?
I was just glancing through the pages as I sometimes do before I start to read the book and the first words that caught my eyes that made me stop to read was: Once you make a decision to go in one direction, you cut off all your other options and possibilities, we dont fully understand what, it means to decide. For example if you make a decision to follow Christ and you say I have received Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. That means you obey him, follow him, you have willingly relinquished all other options. This decision is a good one though!!!
A Preacher William Booth, if you never heard of him, he was the founder of the Salvation Army. He had 9 children. Maria was his third daughter, when she was young she suffered an accident early in life caused her to have convulsions. Even though she had these she went up in rank to be Staff Captain. One day a friend of hers asked her, why would God do this to her? Marias reply was a wonderful way to glorify God. She said Its wonderful to do the Lords work, but greater to do the Lords will. What a wonderful obedient servant. Would you be, no matter the cost?
The Book of Judges introduces you to great women of God. Take Deborah, then theres the wimpy Barak, hes like crying for his Mommy for help.
Through this book we learn:
Our abilities dont Match Gods
We cant be self sufficient and depend on God
We have to depend on God completely with everything. We are not strong enough without God, He is our strength.
Read what happens in the Judges and see the parallel of today. Learn the New King that fought and was similar to Jesus. Israel couldnt defeat their enemies, just as we could not defeat our enemy Satan; we need Jesus and his strength to fight the battle for us and with us.
I recommend this book highly. This book is really a must have. If you look at the world today and wonder what is going on get this book and read it and then see the parallel of today and in Israel days of not wanting God but to live the way they wanted and what happened and why. The book isnt that long of a read 198 pages of pure information for you.
I received this book free from Harvest House for an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review just an honest one. The opinions I have expressed are entirely my own and no one elses.
