Publisher's Description

A New Historical Fiction Series From an Exciting New Team!

When Aaron McCarver met Gilbert Morris at the CBA convention in 1991, he never dreamed that those initial discussions would ultimately lead to his conceiving a historical fiction series that he would write with Gilbert Morris. THE SPRIT OF APPALACHIA chronicles the story of the settlers of America's first frontier--the lands over the Appalachian mountains--and of faith that carried them through the harshest of times.

Over the Misty Mountains is the story of Hawk Spencer, a man whose bitterness over the loss of his wife drives him from his home in Virginia and causes him to seek the frontier to escape his pain. Becoming a skilled trapper, Hawk is persuaded to lead a wagon train over the mountains before the snows come, but the trail is marked by sabotage from an old enemy of Hawk's.

When renegade Indians attack the wagon train and leave Elizabeth MacNeal and her children without a husband, how will Hawk respond to Elizabeth's resilient faith in God? And how will the MacNeals survive the frontier settlement.

Author Bio

Gilbert Morris spent ten years as a pastor before becoming Professor of English at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkansas. He earned a Ph.D. at the University of Arkansas, and did postgraduate work at the University of London. His publishing credits include some two dozen scholarly articles, 200 poems, and more than 200 novels, including series such as House of Winslow, Lions of Judah, and Cheney Duvall, M.D. (coauthored with his daughter, Lynn Morris). Dr. Morris passed away in February 2016. Aaron McCarver teaches drama and Christian literature at Wesley College in Florence, Mississippi. His deep interest in Christian fiction and broad knowledge of the Christian market have given him the background for editorial consultation with all the "writing Morrises" as well as other novelists. It was through his editorial relationship with Gilbert Morris that The Spirit of Appalachia series came to life.

I dont know if this is the same book that I read from the shelves of our elementary school in Rimbey, Alberta, CANADA when I was in Grade 6...some years prior to the removal of Christian library books in many schools. It was so intriguing that I raved on about it at home until both of my parents read it, too. They thoroughly enjoyed it it, as did I. Now, years later, I often think of it, although unable to recall the title, it certainly was an impressionable book for a 10 year old child. We were blessed to adopt three gorgeous, intelligent individual internationally colored baby daughters. After I prayed over my babies each night, they grew and we prayed together then I tried to listen silently in the dark as they poured out their secrets to me and finally, if there still was time, Id tell each one about this story amongst countless others in our individual, private nightly bedtime visits. I hope and pray that its the same book when I make my eBook purchase tonight (although now I hae me douts as ive just read the publication date). Ah well, perhaps its very similar! ~ Meg

For a non-history enthusiast growing up, I was totally involved in this exciting novel from start to finish. I loved the deep spiritual message that was expertly woven in throughout, and I even learned a lot of history in the process. I just finished my third novel in this series and look forward to reading the remaining books.
