I find it intriguing that an author can alternate between edge-of-the-seat suspense and feel-good contemporary small town romance stories with no obvious glitches. But Irene Hannon has been doing this for at least ten years. Just so there is no confusion, this book is set in St. Louis, Missouri, not Hope Harbor where her contemporary books are set. I enjoyed this high suspense story involving a personal chef and a police detective as the leading characters. The chef returns to the home of a client to quickly retrieve something she accidentally left and discovers the dead body of the husband in the kitchen floor. This would rock the world of anyone, but it almost shatters her world because of a horrible situation she endured before moving to St. Louis. As one nerve-wracking event after another happens to her over the next few weeks, she begins to wonder about her own sanity. Grab the book and read this action-packed story to see if you can figure out who murdered the husband and who is behind all the things happening to the chef. I think the author did a good job of throwing me off the trail, just as the detective was struggling to find clues. Hang on tight for the ride.

Over the Edge by Irene Hannon is book 2 in the Undaunted Courage series. A suspenseful action filled mystery.

Lindsey Barnes is a witness to a murder. Which turns her into an unreliable witness when someone tries to set her up as being insane. Jack Tucker, the detective on the case, isn't sure he can trust what she has seen. Jack encourages Lindsey to try to remember any detail that her mind is not remembering. Strange things begin to happen as she remembers details from the murder scene.

Irene Hannon is such a great writer. She melts mystery and romance in such a way that keeps you reading to the end. Ms Hannon never disappoints. Although this is the second in the series, it can be read as a stand alone. This was a good suspense novel, and anyone who enjoys good clean books, will enjoy this new novel.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the publisher. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

When I hear the name of Irene Hannon I think about an author of sweet romance novels and suspense novels. While I am a fan of all her books, my favorite is her suspense novels. Her most recent release is Over the Edge, book 2 in her "Undaunted Courage" series.

This book grabbed me from the first page to the very last. A lot of times I can guess who the bad guy is but let me tell you, I never saw the ending coming. What a roller coaster ride I took and enjoyed every single page.

The female protagonist is Lindsey Barnes, who owns a private chef company, making meals for the elite. She is a trauma survivor that has fully recovered until one day when she finds a dead body in the kitchen of one of her clients. She then hides because she hears someone else in the house...the killer.

The male protagonist is Police Detective Jack Tucker, who enters the story as the detective assigned to the case. He also used to date Lindsey's best friend, that is until her friend died and Lindsey blamed him. This makes for a not so pleasant start for either of them.

Miss Hannon has created two well developed, strong-willed characters in Lindsey and Jack and I fell in love with both of them.

If you love romantic suspense novels, you will find this book will captivate you until the very last page. I highly recommend it!

    On a five-star scale - 5 Stars!!!!!

Irene Hannon is definitely a favorite romantic suspense author! I devoured the first book in the Undaunted Courage series & couldn*t wait for book 2. Over the Edge is aptly titled as it dangled me over the edge with one suspenseful situation after another. The series centers around three grown foster children adopted by the same loving couple, who*ve each overcome troubled pasts & are working in various areas of law enforcement. This is Jack*s story & it definitely packs a wallop!

Talented chef Lindsay Barnes recently moved to St. Louis after experiencing a traumatic event. When she returns to a client*s home to retrieve her knife roll, she inadvertently stumbles onto a murder scene. As she hides from the killer who*s still there, she happens to catch a brief glimpse. When bizarre things begin to happen to her, is she suffering from PTSD, or is someone trying to gaslight her. Then there*s the charming detective who*s too handsome for his own good & who she blames for a heartbreaking incident involving her friend. Will they be able to work together to find the killer.

Police Detective Jack Tucker had a difficult childhood, but luckily thrived after being adopted out of foster care. When he meets Lindsay at a murder scene, he*s puzzled by her cold treatment of him. He also doubts her credibility at first after learning about her traumatic past, & questioning the bizarre incidents that keep happening to her. He also hesitates getting involved with someone who might be suffering from mental issues after dealing with his birth mother. As he gets to know her, he quells his doubts & begins falling for her, but someone is clearly out to get her & as she remembers more about the murder, she becomes even more of a target.

This book had me on pins & needles. At times, I doubted Lindsay herself & wondered if she was an unreliable narrator. The psychological games were definitely chilling. There were several potential suspects each with a motive for murder & it wasn*t until about two thirds into the book that the suspects were revealed. From there, it*s a thrill ride as Lindsay doesn*t recognize the killer until it*s almost too late. The romance was so well done. I loved the depth of these characters & appreciated how they helped each other as they forged a new understanding between them.

It*s a rollercoaster ride I thoroughly enjoyed that had just the right amount of romance & faith. Highly recommend to romantic suspense fans! Though part of a series, each book can easily be read as a standalone. Now I can*t wait to find out what happens to the next sibling. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own & voluntarily provided. 4.5-5 stars!
