Book 1 in Patrick Wigglesworth’s Bizarre Bible Adventures, a series of hilarious comic journals for preteens.

Readers will follow 10-year-old Patrick as he draws silly comics about his weird life. Just how weird is Patrick’s life? It’s so weird that Patrick gets yanked out of his room and into the Bible! In each book, Patrick meets a different Bible character who acts as a tour guide through a portion of the Bible.

In Over My Head, Patrick meets Moses, who leads him on a journey through biblical events from Genesis to Deuteronomy. In his journal, Patrick records all of his bizarre Bible adventures (BBAs for short). Most of the journal covers Patrick’s weird daily life entries with flashbacks to a relevant Bible adventure. Of course, this journal has to be kept secret, as he’s convinced everyone would think he was crazy! To be clear, Patrick’s journal does NOT tell the real Bible stories. It’s about his Bible adventures. This is not a Bible storybook but rather a creative, humorous kid adventure that also teaches preteens about the Bible.

Packed with funny illustrations for reluctant readers, this Christian graphic novel features:

  • Scripture references so kids can look up the Bible stories Patrick experiences
  • Laugh-out-loud humor to keep young readers hooked while they learn about the Old Testament
  • Uplifting themes to help biblical values take root in children’s imaginations

As kids follow Patrick’s zany life, they’ll be inspired to dive into their own Bibles and uncover the adventure God has for them.

Tell us a little about yourself.  I am an author and illustrator. My first projects were as the illustrator of The Bible Animal Storybook, Questar Publishing (1990) and the illustrator of the first edition of The Early Reader's Bible (1991). After that I co-authored and illustrated Hooked On The Book: Patrick's Adventures Through The Books Of The Bible, Morgan James Publishing (2012) with my husband Jack. I have a B.A. in Art and English from University of California at Davis. I also studied graphic design at California College of Arts and Crafts and taught many years of Sunday School as well as homeschooling our three children. My newest 5 book series is Patrick Wigglesworth's Bizarre Bible Adventure, published by Tyndale Publishing (2023, 2024 and 2027). For more see Patrickwigglesworth.com or Tyndale.com/kids.

What was your motivation behind this project?  My husband and I were in full time ministry at the beginning of our marriage. He was the senior pastor and I ran the children's ministry. At that time I realized most kids had no concept of the whole bible story. So we created the book: Hooked On The Book: Patrick's Adventures Through The Books Of The Bible. Years later while working with Child Evangelism Fellowship in a school we observed how many of the kids were reading graphic novels like The Diary of A Wimpy Kind and the Dogman series. I asked God to help us use elements of our first book and turn it into a graphic novel series that kids could enjoy. I feel so blessed that Tyndale picked us up and we are now sharing the big ideas of each book in the Bible with kids all over the world.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  Our hope has always been that children and families will be entertained and curious enough to look up the bible stories we reference in each book. We believe humor is a great way to teach deeper truths. Ultimately we pray that these books will be used by God to lead children and adults to a deeper understanding of Gods love for them.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  This has been a 40 year dream come true that has required a lot of faith and discipline. Half of the time we had no idea how to get to the goal. But God in his grace always provided us "angels" that would guide us to the next process of learning. Learning to listen to God and trust his timing has been at the forefront of all of the other lessons.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  I love to laugh. So any book really fun and creative has always been my inspiration. As a child anything Dr. Suess, Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle, or The Wizard of Oz kept me roaring.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  I just want to say thank you to all of the families and children who have purchases the books in our series. Your letters, Youtube reviews, and Facebook comments make all the years of hard work worth it. I especially love it when I hear it made you laugh!
