Miss Gertrude Cadwalader hoped her position as the paid companion to Mrs. Davenport would be easy. But as she becomes acquainted with her employer, she realizes the wealthy Mrs. Davenport has a strange tendency to be a bit light-fingered with other people's trinkets. Gertrude is relieved when Mrs. Davenport decides to have a quiet summer away from the social scene--until the woman changes her mind in order to help a young socialite launch into society.
When Gertrude is caught in the act of trying to return one of the trinkets by Mrs. Sinclair, the mother of shipping magnate Harrison Sinclair, the woman jumps to an unfortunate conclusion. Harrison is determined to mend fences with Miss Cadwalader, but he's unprepared for the escapades a friendship with her will entail.

Aptly titled because there is nothing ordinary about the characters or the situations found within the pages of Out of the Ordinary! Turano's humour is as absurdly quirky as ever -- in every exacting detail. From the outlandish character names to the crazy circumstances that riddle the plot. And the witty dialogue -- oh la la -- digs delivered with perfect decorum, banter that will leave a reader grinning and outrageous conversations that made my head spin. You need your wits about you when you commence reading this fantastical tale.
Everything Harrison is delectable. From his interesting choice of apparel to his endearing cluelessness around women. He's noble and kind and a works hard at managing the family's shipping business. The ladies flock around him with dollar signs hidden beneath their coquettish fluttering eyelashes. His one true female friend is Gertrude who is equally kind and hard working. But neither dare venture towards romance until family and friends enthusiastically do their utmost to bring them together. And then it's all madcap lunacy as Harrison, egged on by his equally clueless best friend, attempts to woo Gertrude using his sisters' romance novels as a guide. The results are...surprising. And hilarious.
Debbie WilderSalinas, CAAge: 55-65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5This is a hysterical historical romance!March 17, 2018Debbie WilderSalinas, CAAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This story stands alone within the series. The main characters from the first book are present in supporting roles. It was fun to check in and see how their lives had progressed.
Many times throughout the book I was laughing out loud at the conversations and antics of these wonderful characters. At times I was concerned that I was disturbing others in the house with my laughter.
I love the main characters! The variety of quirks that come out is amazing. One of the things that truly captured my attention was seeing how childhood emotional wounds shaped the way Gertrude behaved with others as an adult. We had hints of those wounds throughout the book.
Then over halfway into the book there was a major, heartbreaking, truth revealing session. So many of the odd behaviors were explained and my heart truly ached for all the pain and suffering that Gertrude and others had gone through.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. I have chosen to write this review to express my personal opinion.

I have been impatiently waiting to read this book and it did not disappoint! Miss Gertrude Cadwalader is a paid companion to the wealthy Mrs. Davenport. That position has her doing the most outlandish things, such as wearing creations to society events that no person in their right mind would be caught dead wearing in public. Gertrude and Mrs. Davenport are at an engagement party on-board the Sinclair family yacht. Mrs. Davenport has disappeared and Gertrude must find her before something bad happens.
Harrison Sinclair has been drawn to Gertrude ever since he became acquainted with her through his friend, Asher Rutherford. He thinks she is lovely, no matter what crazy concoction Mrs. Davenport has her modeling. Harrison hopes that their friendship will become something more, but he's unprepared for the crazy situations that Gertrude always seem to find herself in.
This book is full of adventure, romance, mystery and mayhem. It has elements of faith, goodness and family that I've come to expect from this author. As usual, there are some twists and turns because it wouldn't be a Jen Turano novel without them. I can't wait for to read the next book in the series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and the author in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my owe and I was not required to leave a positive review.
rkfall5 Stars Out Of 5Out of the OrdinaryFebruary 24, 2018rkfallQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Out of the Ordinary by Jen Turano was a great romantic read! Besides having an amazing cover, the book is full of adventure and suspense that is exciting to read about. The extreme devotion this girl has for her employer was astonishing. Her employer would have "sticky" fingers and she found herself having to return all the things she had taken. This put her in some major predicaments for sure. And the man she falls in love with has the reader sailing along with her.

RatGirl244 Stars Out Of 5Fun, light-hearted Christian Fiction romance. Great beach read.February 10, 2018RatGirl24Quality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5"Out of the Ordinary (Apart from the Crowd Book #2)" by Jen Turano
Gertrude Cadwalader is employed by Mrs. Davenport as a companion, but she is so much more: model of Mrs. Davenports strange hair and clothing designs and returner of stolen goods. Mrs. Davenport is not a thief, not really, as she doesnt keep the things she steals, but tasks Gertrude with returning them. This setup works pretty well until Mrs. Davenport swipes some things during a party on board the Sinclair yacht. Later, Gertrude is caught by the Sinclair matriarch while trying to return those items. Things become a bit tricky as Gertrude is friends with the Sinclair heir, Harrison, who happens to be quite handsome.
I loved the setting of the yacht and the part of the story that takes place on it.
I also loved the theme of God doesnt expect His children to live ordinary lives, but extraordinary ones. Such a great reminder to hand your life over to God, trusting Him to lead the way to the path of extraordinary.
I wont lie, I would have loved a bit more of Mrs. Davenport and her mystery. It played such a small part in the story and unfolded rather quickly.
Also, I was surprised to find this is the second book in the series as the print copy had no number on the cover, spine or cover page (it did say Apart From the Crowd).
This is my first Jen Turano book, but it wont be my last. She is an excellent Christian Fiction writer and the book was first-rate.
