ae25 Stars Out Of 5great!January 28, 2020ae2Quality: 5Value: 4Meets Expectations: 5This is a great start to a new series from Amanda Cabot. Her stories are always so interesting and this is no exception. Readers will easily find themselves pulling for Evelyn (and wanting the recipes for the food she makes in her restaurant!) to find refuge and love and for Wyatt to realize what will really make him happy. The romance is sweet, the suspense and plot are intriguing, and it's easy to recommend this book to readers looking for high-quality writing.
I read an ARC provided by the publisher via #NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

Out of the Embers is a heartwarming work of historical fiction, full of adventure. But, really, it is far more. I doubt any reader would not be moved by the growing trust between the main characters and, eventually, the morally complex ending. Evelyn Radcliffe and a young child, Polly, travel over a hundred miles in an open wagon, fleeing a suspicious orphanage fire, and a closer relationship is formed. Rancher Wyatt Clark finds them near Mesquite Springs, in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, sheltering from a thunderstorm. So, we keep reading, and along the way we meet many scoundrels, heroes, and people who judge without understanding.
Cabot does a wonderful job of immersing the reader in the time and place, 1855, not all that many years after the early settlers arrived in Texas. She descriptively conveys the surroundings, the way of life, and the complexities of this time. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher, through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
