Katherine Demarchis is a young widow who does not grieve the dangerous husband she was forced to marry. Now she just wants to retreat to a quiet life, content to be alone. First, though, she's agreed to accompany her grandmother on a final trip, but never expects to see a man from her past.
Katherine and Jean-Michel once shared a deep love that was torn apart by forces beyond their control. Reunited now, have the years changed them too deeply to rediscover what they had? And when Jean-Michel's nightmares return with terrifying consequences, will faith be enough to heal what's been broken for so long?

DanniAge: 25-34Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Good BookFebruary 16, 2018DanniAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4What a charming book that Tracie Peterson and Kimberley Woodhouse have written. Well maybe charming isn't the correct word.
Or even just a GOOD book
Even though this is the second book in The Heart Of Alaska series, Out Of The Ashes can be a stand alone book. (Although I will now have to go back and read the first one!!) Seriously why do I always find these books midway in the series!!
I really did like this book. The whole group of characters were so good. Personally I loved the French part because it just reminds me so much of my family. I adored Jean Micheal's willingness and confusion when attempting to help his sister Collette.
Katherine and Jean Micheal were a couple that I could see myself being friends with. They were damaged and came back together with much baggage. I loved how the authors made their journey be about steps. While I don't doubt God can heal immediately, it is a struggle to deal with things when you have been hurt as badly as they were.
I do hope there is more to this series!!
I received this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion.
Bookworm4vr5 Stars Out Of 5Another great novel from Tracie PetersonFebruary 16, 2018Bookworm4vrQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Heart of Alaska Book 2- Out of the Ashes- is a great novel, set in 1925 Curry, Alaska, a compilation from Tracie Peterson and Kimberly Woodhouse. If you have followed along, you will remember Allan and Cassidy's budding relationship from the last book. Here we still get to see how Cassidy and Allan are doing with their marriage, but we get to meet three new characters, Jean- Michel Langelier and his sister, Collette, along with Katherine Demarchis.
Cassidy and Allan have been married about 2 years. Their relationship continues to be a loving one with God the center of their lives. Cassidy is always busy helping Mrs. Johnson in the kitchen. Cassidy has noticed a unusual tiredness and dizzy spells when we see her again. Cassidy soon finds out that she is pregnant with her and Allan's first child. Both parents are very excited, as well as the tough Mrs. Johnson. Cassidy soon become an emotional roller coaster and tries to pray for the Lord to guide her in her tough time.
Jean-Michel Langlier and his sister, Collette, have just lost their father and are both grieving. His father, in his will, suggested that Jean-Michel and Collette go on a trip around the world. Jean- Michel has been battling with, what we would say today Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He cannot escape the haunting recurrent nightmares and doesn't feel that a trip should happen. As well, his sister Collette is very wayward and he has no idea what his father wanted him to do. All his father said was to seek God, but how can he seek God and guide his sister, when Jean- Michel doesn't know what to do himself. However, Jean-Michel receives a letter from his former love's, Katherine Demarchis, grandmother,Mrs. Harrison. In the letter, she expresses her growing concern for her granddaughter and her abusive marriage (Katherine's husband has died) and feels that if Katherine would see Jean-Michel, she would open her heart to love again.
Will Jean-Michel and Katherine be able to heal from their wounds? Will all three individuals find their way to God and will they open their hearts to love again? I guess you are going to have to grab a copy for yourself. :-)
Lastly, I'd like to thank, Bethany House Publishers for giving me a complimentary copy and the chance to read this book for my honest opinion! This book has been awesome and I look forward for the next edition.

Specksbooks4 Stars Out Of 5Clean Love StoryFebruary 16, 2018SpecksbooksQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4I have been a long time fan of Peterson's writing and after reading the first novel in the series have been looking forward to Out of the Ashes. True to Peterson style, this novel has amazing writing, wonderful dialog and great knowledge of the area and the struggles of the times. I enjoyed the love story between Jean-Michel and Katherine, it showed the kind of lasting love two people can share. I must admit I did hope for a little more depth like the first novel has, but Out of the Ashes is a wonderful clean love story.
Jane5 Stars Out Of 5Enjoyable storyFebruary 14, 2018JaneQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I am always hesitant to read a sequel when I haven't read the first book as sometimes the author assumes you have read the first and have the prior knowledge necessary to fully enjoy the book. That was not the case with Out of the Ashes. Tracie Peterson and Kimberley Woodhouse did an excellent job of giving the reader all the information needed to fully understand and enjoy the plot. Out of the Ashes is book two in The Heart of Alaska series.
Collette and Jean-Michel have just experienced the lost of their father, a Christian. Collette has lived a pampered life but Jean-Michel has had some disappointments in love and faced some horrors in the Great Syrian Revolt of 1925. Their father died a Christian but neither of the adult children have come to faith. Jean-Michel receives and invitation to visit his old love in Alaska. Collette and Jean-Michel had already decided to travel as their father left them quite well off.
Katherine Demarchis was forced to marry an abusive man, a senator, instead of being allowed to be with the man she loved. When her abusive husband dies, Katherine's grandmother takes her on a journey through the United States and on to Alaska to help heal her heart. Her grandmother takes a chance and invites Katherine's old love to meet them in Alaska.
Out of the Ashes is a touching story of healing and redemption. It also includes intrigue and mystery. I enjoyed this book so much that I ordered book one for our school library. Out of the Ashes will also be added to the school library. I received the book from Bethany House Publishers in exchange for this review.
