null4 Stars Out Of 5Excellent Thorough Grammar CurriculumJune 14, 2023nullQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4This curriculum is very thorough and offers plenty of review. As an English teacher, I use this curriculum for middle and high school students who did not receive the grammar foundation they needed in their earlier grades.
This is not truely a workbook, though, because there is not room in the book to do the exercises. Since a separate notebook or paper is required, it is more of a textbook. -
MTA3 Stars Out Of 5Not a First Time Learning CurriculumJanuary 28, 2021MTAQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 3This curriculum would be great as review or as practice but was not a good curriculum for teaching grammar concepts. My students were middle school students and this curriculum was not helpful for them.

ajthompsonSouth DakotaAge: 25-34Gender: female2 Stars Out Of 5Not a good curriculumAugust 28, 2025ajthompsonSouth DakotaAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 2Meets Expectations: 1I regret purchasing this so much. First off, it is only one semester worth. I had assumed it was a full year curriculum as that is what every other company offers. But even worse is the descriptions in the book to explain the concepts. If you know anything about the Wilsons, they are very intelligent people. But you'll also know that they love to speak over everyone's head. This book is no exception. The way Nancy explains grammar concepts is unlike any other teacher I have heard, using wording that is very confusing. It's not at all helpful for my struggling student.

mama4schooling1 Stars Out Of 5Don't buy thisMarch 23, 2022mama4schoolingQuality: 1Value: 1Meets Expectations: 1I wanted to like this grammar book but I would not recommend this curriculum to teach grammar.
-- It assumes an extensive, solid background in grammar.
--It has brief and incomplete explanations.
-- Exercises act like the student already knows what the lesson is about and this is just a refresher.
--Exercises are often tricky -- again assumes the student has a grasp on the subject matter
-- the additional Answer key book is necessary and often needed to figure things out.
--The workbook binding split and cracked in the copies we purchased. The workbook quickly falls apart.. It can be written in but paper also has to be used because there isn't room to do many of the exercises.
This was not a good choice for us. We did much better with Analytical Grammar with two of our other students who did much better than the students who were doing the Mother Tongue book. We will be switching to Analytical Grammar next school year with the students who did Mother Tongue this year.
If your student has a solid, extensive background in grammar. This might be the book for you.
