Publisher's Description

Everyone loves to receive a gift. And God has given us many, such as his grace—the gift we don’t deserve and can never earn. Promises from the One who declares we are already loved, already accepted, already created in his image. The question becomes, will we truly receive that gift? Will the reality of it actually change the way we think and notice and reach out?

God’s Word will stand forever, in any season of life. These truths prompt us to respond with compassion and courage.

Through inspiring devotions, Lucinda Secrest McDowell reveals biblical blessings that remind us that: God’s promises give us strength, God’s grace can be most evident at our weakest points, a proper response to our abundance of blessings is simply gratitude, and the "more" we are all looking for is the same abundant life that Jesus came to give us.

Would you like to receive these gifts of ordinary grace? Join Lucinda in focusing on one word a day through devotional readings and short benedictions for any and every season to explore the many facets of Grace, Strength, Gratitude, and Life.

Little did Lucinda Secrest McDowell know that my ’life verse’ is John 1:16: ’For of His fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.’ In Ordinary Graces, Lucinda has conveyed the strategic importance of looking for and finding God's grace in our everyday lives. His grace does transform our lives. Gently. Tenderly. Wonderfully. The words she has chosen are exquisitely real and important to my life—and yours. Indulge in the grace-filled truth she is sharing. Take it for yourself.
—Ruth Graham, author In Every Pew Sits a Broken Heart

What a delight to slow down for a few minutes of quiet with this beautifully written devotional, Ordinary Graces.  In a world of hurry, Lucinda's words remind us there is grace and strength available if we will just stop to receive.  Each day's reading will speak to you from Scripture and change your life for the better.
—Arlene Pellicane, author of Calm, Cool, and Connected: 5 Digital Habits for a More Balanced Life

In the beginning was the Word ... and there were words ... and they all had meaning and they were good for the spirit of man. And then Lucinda Secrest McDowell came along and took ordinary words and ushered in ordinary graces. These are the words you'd expect in a book such as this, words like gift and life. But there are also words one doesn't expect, words like broken and anger. And perhaps my favorite word of all, sleep. In Ordinary Graces, Lucinda gives us a glimpse of the ordinary to the extraordinary, highlights of her heart, and moments within the heart of God. Close enough to hear His heartbeat.
—Eva Marie Everson, CBA Bestselling Author, President, Word Weavers International

Ordinary Graces is the sort of book I can return to again and again for wise and gracious words that encourage, challenge, inspire, and comfort. A feast for the soul.
—Sharon Garlough Brown, author Sensible Shoes novel series

When I buy a devotional, I want to know that I’m getting profound insights that are theologically grounded, yet relatable to my everyday, ordinary life. That’s exactly what Lucinda Secret McDowell offers in Ordinary Graces. I wanted to underline something in every paragraph, and I found myself reflecting on her words when I went about my day as a mom and a wife. This beautiful devotional will minister to your heart and lead you straight to the source of all grace: Jesus.
—Jennifer Dukes Lee, author of The Happiness Dare and Love Idol

Ordinary Graces is a short excellent daily devotional, with a Scripture verse and then practical ways on how to put the presence of God in the forefront of our day. Each one is named with a word we use in our everyday lives which Cindy knows how to capture in an excellent illustration.  She writes beautifully and succinctly of the things we need to hear, usually with some humor and sharing a fascinating story from her own or a friend's life. At the end of each day's devotion, she writes a short intimate message from God to us, always aligned with the truths of Scripture. I highly recommend this book for anyone seeking to grow in knowing God.

This Author is a wonderful writer who has a deep relationship with God. Each devotion is evidence of her walk with her Saviour. She has included many wonderful stories and quotes from the giants of faith past and present. I absolutely love this devotional. Each devotion starts with a topic so the reader can pick and choose or simply read them in order. I like being able to easily find what I need to read that day. The devotion contains the Word of God and a prayer at the end.

This past year, I savored Lucinda Secrest McDowell's book DWELLING PLACES:WORDS TO LIVE IN EVERY SEASON. By the end, the book was worn, pages ruffled and marked up with notes of who to share the two page devotions with and messages to myself to reread. While it is always a sense of satisfaction to finish a book, I was sad that the there were not as many devotions as there were days of the year. I am delighted that I will be able to start 2018 with a new book by

Lucinda Secrest McDowell. ORDINARY GRACES:WORD GIFTS FOR ANY SEASON again follows the two page format. Each entry begins with a

Bible verse and then focuses on how to recognize the daily gifts of grace, how to accept it, and how to extend it to others. Like DWELLING PLACES, each devotion ends, not with a prayer to God, but with a message from God to the reader. Some may think putting words in God's mouth is presumptuous, but I found those simple, warm passages to be most encouraging and settling. Arranged under four major topics - Grace, strength, gratitude, and life- ORDINARY GRACES promises to be again a book that will end up tattered and marked up with insightful notes. I think this book would make a wonderful small gift for loved ones this season or for someone battling one of life's rough spots. I received a copy of ORDINARY GRACES from Litfuse. All opinions are mine.

In Ordinary Graces there is page after page of encouragement through scripture, prayer and personal stories. I love how the book is broken up into sections on Grace, Strength, Gratitude and Life. As I read through the book, I found words that gave me hope, encouraged me and helped me to live a more joyful life. We can get weary from struggles and feel like we cant go on. With this wonderful devotion, you can find scriptures that lift you up as you soak in the Word.

I loved the topic she shared on Battle. As I read the pages I slowly understood exactly what their weakness was turned to strength. They became strong in battle. Even though I may be going through something, I can turn my weakest moment into strength. I can stand strong and face my battle and know that He is right there beside me.

I have to share this one because it really hit home. The chapter talks about baggage. I know that subject very well. I have carried baggage all my life. I have let it way me down, discourage me and believed hurtful words said about me. After awhile that baggage gets heavy and the lies start to take over. I loved how the author encourages us to, fix our eyes on Jesus. Its time to leave the past behind, stop looking in the rear view mirror and move forward.

This book will be close by at all times so I can go back to it when I feel down, need encouragement and be filled with hope, strength and grace.

I received a copy of this book from LitFuse. The review is my own opinion.

Ordinary Graces is a timely gift. Lucinda Secrest McDowells newest book brings depth to the topic of Gods grace by dwelling on the deep things of God, one word at a time. With these bite size portions, you will ponder words like, Belovedone of my favorites.

Be Loved. How precious to know that He calls me Beloved even when I dont feel loved or loveable. He whispers to me: Be-loved beloved. Let me love you.

Ordinary Graces will provide daily bread from the heart of God. Lucindas heart shines through in this wonderful book. And it will allow a deeper look at the heart of God.

A copy of this book was complimentary for my review.

Lucinda McDowell has a gift for words and a love for them as well. In this work, she chooses one word per day, offers a few thoughts on it, a Scripture reading that focuses on it, and a benediction-like prayer to close. Her purpose is to point readers to the message of God in each word. What might that word teach us about him, about our relationship with him? Each post is short, perfect for a breakfast-time read, or even during carpool (if your passenger reads it aloud).

Thirty words. Thirty insightful, well-crafted thoughts to mull over. Thirty Scriptures to ingest. The subtitle is Word Gifts for Any Season, and Id agree that it can be used at any time of year as a supplement to deep Bible study or just to get someone thinking about the Word. Why not start with Advent? Or as a gift to start someones new year thinking about God?
