I started with Overkill and Part One and now it wont leave my head because Im all too curious about the rest of the story, what will happen to Teya and David? Will she ever be able to return to him? What about Annie? Will her dear Navy Seal come join the team or will Trace manage to reawake the feelings in her that never died in him? What about Boone and Kelsey? So much is going onso much is still threatened.. I cant wait to finish the series and calm my worries about all these characters that Ronnie managed to create so real that they seem tangible and close like people you really know.. Such a talent!!!
Disclaimer: I have received a free copy of this book from the Publisher, through Netgalley, in exchange for my honest opinion.
LHartnessSavannahAge: 35-44Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Introduction to an Intriguing SeriesSeptember 18, 2014LHartnessSavannahAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5After reading Ronie Kendig's Raptor 6, I was glad to see more work from this talented author. Her latest title, Operation Zulu: Redemption has been released as a serial novel in five parts. The first portion is named "Overkill: The Beginning" and kicks off what is sure to be an interesting and thrilling series.
We are introduced to multiple characters, but most notably the six women of Operation Zulu. All have their own cloudy past serving in the military, but have gone on to reinvent themselves as civilians, changing their names and making little to no mention of their histories. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, these soldiers are pulled back into service. This is generally not a welcome event from the point of view of the servicewomen, as they had worked for years to establish new identities, find new loves and move on.
As this is only (in theory) 20% of the novel, The Beginning is a short taste of things to come, and its task is to introduce characters and the general concepts. So while there are exciting moments (particularly when the ladies are forced to leave their new lives), there is a sense that we are in the opening scenes of a movie, getting to know the major players. In order for us to be invested in these individuals and care about what happens to them later in the series, we have to delve into not only their pasts a bit, but also their present day. Ronie Kendig does this well, showing us how these women are smart and tough, but they have soft hearts too. By the conclusion of this episode, I was eager to jump into the next title, Collateral Damage.
Originally released once a week during the summer of 2014, all five parts are now available for download as ebooks. This opening episode, "The Beginning" is available for free, so you can get started at no cost. And if you prefer the standard print version for all five portions, Series 1 will be available with all five episodes (480 pages) in December.
i blog 4 books5 Stars Out Of 5Great Start!August 27, 2014i blog 4 booksWhat. A. Great. Book!!! Or prequel to a book, I suppose you could say. I was a little confused by the rapid introduction of characters, but I quickly caught on and was enthralled by the story. I loved how quickly the story moved and read this part in just one sitting!
This is the first of a five-part serial novel. This beginning was just enough to whet my appetite, so I'm anxiously looking forward to reading the rest ... and soon! [5 stars]
homesteadingHampton Roads -- VAAge: 55-65Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Phenomenal beginning!July 30, 2014homesteadingHampton Roads -- VAAge: 55-65Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Oh man! When I first heard that my favorite Christian Military Suspense writer was going to write about an all female special operations team, I wasn't sure it was going to be as good as her other books. I mean, when I think spec-ops, I think males. Big, brave, burly men. But let me tell you, Overkill blew me away. What a phenomenal start to this serialization. I was biting my nails (okay, not literally but figuratively) while reading this story. There are no punches pulled. It's a hard core, emotionally driven, edge of your seat thrill ride. I'm hanging on for dear life because I have no idea where it will end up but I know it's going to be like drinking a tall glass of Mint Iced Tea for this southern girl; satisfying to the last drop, er...page. :)
