Product Description

In One Small Donkey by Dandi Daley Mackall, and illustrated by Marta Alvarez Miguens, little ones will discover the story of the very first Christmas, seen through the eyes of an unlikely narrator---the donkey that carries Mary to Bethlehem. The donkey is not the biggest, fastest, or strongest of all the animals but he had an important job all the same. A wonderful message for children ages 4 to 8 years with lovely illustrations and a gently, rhyming text.

This is a cute hard back book for little ones. It tells the story of Joseph and Mary going to Bethlehem and the baby Jesus being born from a donkey's point of view. It is written in rhyming prose, all beginning with One Small Donkey. Some of the rhyming may not be the best, but I don't really think a child is going to care and it gets the point across. It's a board book so all the pages are thick and hard and best for those tiny ones to turn the pages without tearing.

The illustrations are beautifully done and the characters come to life with the bright colors. It begins with daytime journey and ends with the night in the stable. My children are not toddlers any more, but I am pretty sure even my nine year old is going to enjoy this book. I am saving some adorable books like these to pass along to any young grandchildren in the future.

I received this book from BookLook blogger program in exchange for my honest opinion.

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from the publisher HarperCollins Publishers book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. One Small Donkey is a childrens board book suggested for children between the ages of four and eight. One Small Donkey tells the possible part that a small donkey had in Christs birth. It begins with the donkey grazing in a field and ends with the donkey by the side of baby Jesus.

The illustrations are rich with color and nicely done with curved angles and for characters and landscape. The content of One Small Donkey does follow the story of baby Jesus birth from a distance (not closely with detailed accounts). However, the wording and arrangement of the text content do not seem to flow and rhyme as smoothly as you would think it would. I do not have a recommendation for One Small Donkey; the written story did not stand out to me, but the illustrations were noteworthy.

One Small Donkey by Dandi Daley Mackall tells the Christmas story from a donkey's point of view. The illustrations are absolutely adorable. However, I was not totally impressed with the way the story is told. It does rhyme, but I think the story could have had more substance. My 2.5 year old does like the pictures however. Overall, I think it's a sweet Christmas story to add to your collection, but I wouldn't consider it a must have.

This book is about little ones that can do big things. Even though we do not know for sure if a donkey carried Mary to Bethlehem. This book is still neat with a new perspective of a small donkey taking Mary on her journey to have Jesus. A quote from the book is One small donkey with a hee-hee-haw! Cheering at the Saviors birth- One small donkey with a giant heart. Welcomes Christ, our peace on earth.

I honestly love almost any book that teaches my children about Jesus. So this book was a win for me. I plan on giving it to my son for Christmas. This book is great for younger ages. The illustrations by Marta Alvarez Miguens are incredibly adorable. I really enjoyed looking at the pictures in this book. The cover is hardcover and it is very nice. Did I mention that the pictures are really great? I honestly had to look at the book again because I wanted to see the pictures.

My only complaint is that the flow of the book is not that great. In fact, I heard someone use the words jarring and choppy for the way it flows. I would agree it seems very choppy. Even though it is choppy, especially in the beginning. I like the layout of the story and I loved the pictures.

If you are looking for a new spin on the Christmas story this book is what you mightbe looking for. I enjoyed that I can explain to my children that every animal and every person is important. Even SMALL donkeys or small people. It is very encouraging for small kids. I was given a free copy of this book for my honest review.

It was a cute board book telling the Christmas story from a small donkey's perspective. I loved the idea that little ones can do big things for God, but wish the theme would have been more obvious throughout the book. The wording of the text was a bit of a tongue twister and I don't think my toddler would have picked up the theme if I didn't continue to talk about it through the book. The illustrations are darling and the book gives you lots to talk about with your children as Christmas is quickly approaching.
