Terri Gillespie5 Stars Out Of 5Supercharged SuspenseJanuary 10, 2024Terri GillespieQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for One Final Target, Softcover.Author and former police officer, Janice Cantore lends her authentic storytelling once again to her latest book, ONE FINAL TARGET.
Forget laundry, dishes, etc., etc., etc., folks. You won't be able to put this book down! Non-stop action with twisty turns and enough red herrings to keep the reader in suspense to the end.
THE STORY: Jodie's team are all killed by an IED set in a house where the team was to issue a "routine" warrant--she was the sole survivor. Her team were not only co-workers, but her dear friends. Devastated and unable to move forward, she resigns from the force and wonders why God allowed such tragedy in her life.
Sam has emotional and physical scars when he loses his partner and friend in a fiery crash caused by an inebriated driver. He is ready to get back to work and is assigned as a detective for the county sheriff's department. Sam is on a similar faith journey as Jodie.
The two encounter each other when Jodie revisits the scene of the crime and Sam happens upon her. Their introductions are brief because a rain of bullets aimed at Jodie sends them for cover. So begins the action-packed plot that had me fully engaged in the story.
With themes of faith, romance, grief, and healing, ONE FINAL TARGET is the ticket to a fast-paced winner! Highly recommended.
I received an ARC from the publisher for my honest review. -
Debbie from ChristFocusHarrison, ARAge: 45-54Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Bent on revengeNovember 15, 2023Debbie from ChristFocusHarrison, ARAge: 45-54Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for One Final Target, Softcover."One Final Target" is a Christian romantic suspense. Since Jodie was responsible for her team, she felt guilty for their deaths even though there was no way for her to anticipate what happened. Sam also second-guessed himself after his partner died in an accident, so he could understand some of what Jodie was going through and help her deal with her guilt and grief. He also found further healing through helping her. They worked well together during the intense events. The author kept me guessing about exactly who on Sam's suspect list had a personal grudge worth killing over. I thought I knew, but I also wasn't sure, so who could they really trust? The constant danger and this uncertainty created a high level of suspense.
Jodie struggled with believing God was good even when tragedy happened. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this engaging, suspenseful story.

LGS5 Stars Out Of 5Pulse-Pounding Suspense!February 15, 2024LGSQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5One of many talents of author Janice Cantore is to pull her readers into the story in the first few paragraphs. The tension and suspense at the first of the book had me hooked and the rest of it did not disappoint. One Final Target has edge-of-your-seat suspense, the baffling mystery of who the villain is, action, and a slow-burn romance. Another talent of this author is to write in such a way that you can feel the cold, hear the bullets, and easily picture the scene. If you're reading in a public place, try not to duck when the bullets are fired! I found the main characters to be likeable and complex. They were both dealing with survivor's guilt. I enjoyed reading about their faith journeys as they struggled. One of my favorite quotes from the book is, "God is good, even when life is not."
I would definitely read more from this author. I recommend One Final Target to readers of clean romantic suspense, Christian romantic suspense, Christian fiction, and Christian crime fiction.
I received a complimentary copy through NetGalley from the publisher and am sharing my opinion of this very well written book. -
SemmieAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Another Incredible Cantore ThrillerJanuary 30, 2024SemmieAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for One Final Target, Softcover.** "If you choose to live in the past, regretting things you can't change, it will destroy you. God is sovereign. Lamenting the past is denying his control, saying you know better than God. That's not possible. God can fix what is ugly; you need to let him." **
Once again Janice Cantore delivers a high-intensity thriller with "One Final Target," a story that reminds us that "God is good, even when life isn't."
Still reeling from her team being killed in an explosion, Jodie King has left the Long Beach Police Department to attempt to move on and away from all that offers painful reminders. But when she's drawn back into the fire, she must use her policing skills to figure out who seems to be after her.
San Bernardino County Sheriff Detective Sam Gresham is still recovering from his own nearly fatal experience when he's pulled into Jodie's case. As the two work together to solve the string of deadly events, they must both overcome their guilt over each of their own experiences and find healing and forgiveness ... all while trying to stay alive.
Cantore always creates intense plots filled with twists and turns, heart-thumping action and just enough romance to curl your toes. She develops amazing characters that have real issues that readers can relate to and root for.
She also filled "One Final Target" with several great themes, like sometimes you have to just say "But God"; dealing with guilt and blame, especially survivor's guilt; God can turn any evil into good; when you feel like there is a barrier between you and heaven; don't stay stuck in the past or let bitterness take root; and the concept of Romans 8:28 ("It's hard not to see God's hand in things when everything goes well. You have to look harder whey they go sideways. Remember, God works all things out.")
Fans of authors like Irene Hannon, Lynette Eason and Terri Blackstock will love "One Final Target," which is due out Feb. 13.
Five stars out of five.
