GabeGabeGabeGabeGabeGabeGabe...am I babbling? Yes. But...Gabe!!!!!! My fried neurons from last week have short-circuited so I'm stuck on a Gabe loop now...which is sublimely distracting. :-)

I have been waiting for Anissa and Gabe's story since meeting them in the first Dive Team Investigations book! The anticipation was nearly unbearable and I eagerly dived into this one (pun intended.) I listened to the audible version and Kate Forbes did justice to these beloved characters and their story! Her narration made this a compulsive listen.

Love, love, love how the author brings the whole team together so many times in this final Dive Team Investigation book. (Sob!) Their banter-fueled camaraderie is the best and kept me grinning through the tough times. My jaw aches from smiling so much! You don't need to have read the first two books to get the team dynamics -- Blackburn does an excellent job of highlighting relationships and catching new-to-the-series readers up so they won't feel lost. But these guys have all been given plenty of page time regardless of who has the starring roles so this felt kinda like a reunion read for me.

The suspense is crazy intense -- three cases that become entangled with just enough sinister asides from the mysterious bad guy to give a reader sublime anxiety. :-) Page-turning (or rabid listening) is a foregone conclusion once you start in on this story.

And did I mention Gabe? Of course I did -- excitedly fangirling without any substance so let me rectify that. Think contrasts. Tough and tender. Teasing and serious. Protective but respectful. He's been falling in love with Anissa for months and he's just realizing it. And when he lapses into Spanish here and there...well, it's time I posted a sizzling meltdown warning! The swoonworthiest of swoonworthy heroes!

I love that both Gabe and Anissa are Christians who believe in the power of prayer. Blackburn includes some wonderful inspirational threads throughout this plot. Love how their faith just flows naturally into the story. But they are by no means perfect -- they have their own doubts and fears to wrestle with. As dear Mr. Cook gently advises -- "Be open to the gifts God's trying to give you."

    Hair-raising, heart-racing, toe-curling laugh-out-loudable and a whole lot of fun!

This is the first book in this series I read, I am sure I missed a ton and after reading this book will definitely be going and reading the other books in this series. This book literally keeps you guessing from the beginning to the end. I really enjoyed this book and could not put it down. The suspense and the story between Anissa and Gabe was so good. I liked how the author didn't rush the relationship but just let it grow. I loved Liz she and Brooke where a different element for the story but equally amazing. This book was a good clean read and is so worth the read. I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley. I was under no obligation to post a review and have given my honest opinion.

I'm always excited to find a new author to add to my list of favorites: Lynn Blackburn has been added to that list. I love the way she writes: the heart she puts into the story and the spiritual messages that resonate so deeply. There are light moments as well as tense. The plot was never slow or boring.

Quotes like this one hit home:

"But somewhere along the way I learned the best way to survive was to make a joke out of everything. Keep people laughing and keep things light and you don't have to think about the hard stuff."

"God's callings are as varied as his children, Anissa. All are necessary. None are reserved for the weak and unimportant to handle."

I believe this book is the last in a trilogy, and even though some plot points would have been easier to understand if I'd read the first two books, it didn't make reading this book any less enjoyable.

Another great addition to the Dive Team Investigations series. I don't know what comes next from Lynn Blackburn, but I hope she has some more stories in this series. The title of this one makes you wonder if one of the main characters breathes his or her last breath. You will have to read the book to find out because I'm not telling. I enjoyed the interactions between Anissa, Gabe, and their friends. Each has their own specialty, not only at work but in their friendship circle. I particularly got a charge out of the frequent banter between Anissa and Gabe. Fortunately, it seemed they could both take it as well as they could dish it out. The two teenage girls, Brooke and Liz, added greatly to the story. A few times I think I caught myself holding my breath, wondering what was going to happen. The tension mounted from the first shot fired on the lake until the very end. I recommend this book to everyone who loves suspense-filled books.

This is book three in the Dive Team Investigations but you can enjoy it even if you've not read the first two. There are three cases being investigated at the same time. One in which Anissa's best friend was murdered and a three year old was abducted. A young teenage boy was shot and killed while swimming in a lake and Anissa is being pursued and followed by an unknown source. Anissa is head of the dive team and Gabe, once an undercover investigator, is now trying to help her find resolution to these crimes. Anissa's supervisor is pushing really hard for these to be solved but there is so much to be uncovered. And of course there is no way they could possibly be tied together. Really?

This novel kept me holding my breath at times but not because I was underwater. So much mystery, so much heart pounding suspense. I didn't want to use a cliche but it truly is a story that will keep you up late into the night turning pages as you try and read faster and faster. And there is a reason for the title but not what you might think...umm.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author but was not required to write a review positive or otherwise. All opinions are my own.
