I'm fond of board books now. One Big Turkey is no difference. I love how the board books feel: hard and smooth with lots of cutesy pictures and full color! I love that the words and sentences are short and brief.

    She Said:

After G enjoyed One Spring Lamb so much, I just couldnt pass up One Big Turkey (published by Tommy Nelson), the newest book by Anne Vittur Kennedy.

One Big Turkey follows the same style as One Spring Lamb. Each page contains two rhyming verses that feature a different number from 1-10. Some of the verses are cute and funny. G smiled but it didnt produce the amount of chuckles that I had hoped for. I was very much bothered by all the mice mentions. I detest rodents. I grew up in houses that had rodent problems and on farms so I really, really hate them. I dont think they are cute and seeing them eat perfectly good crops just makes me mad. While I enjoyed the illustrations of corn and gourds, the mice really ruined this book for me.

G loves the bright colorful turkey on the cover, but after that he seemed pretty uninterested except for the fish swimming in the stream. I have to say those darn mice ruined the pumpkin pictures for me too.

While I really hated seeing the mice, I found some other problems with this book. Several of the illustrations are decidedly blah and felt a little too cartoony. The author also mentions fireflies, which I thought only came out in summer? Ive never seen them in fall before.

One Big Turkey wasnt nearly as a big of a success for us as One Spring Lamb was. Since it isnt a favorite of mommy or G, I doubt we will read it often. If youre like me and mice or rodents make you uncomfortable, Id recommend skipping this book. Rodent and fall fans might find it charming though.

(I received this book from BookLook Bloggers in exchange for an honest review, all opinions are my own.)

Counting and rhyming go hand in hand in this board book. Each page is a 4 line rhyme with a picture to match.

It is easy to read this book out loud to your child as the prose is simple yet sweet.

The illustrations are bright, and the turkey is found on every page. It would be fun to ask the toddler to find the turkey while you read the page.

Thomas Nelson provided me a free copy of this book in exchange for this review which I freely give.

A perfectly wonderful book for little toddler hands. Sturdy as a board book. Very colorfully illustrated and full of pictures of animals. This book celebrates the harvest through the eyes fo the forest animals. The authors idea was to teach little ones at an early to be thankful. The rhyming text is very catchy. This would make a perfect book for School and church nurseries, gifts and to be read at thanksgiving.

Follow a turkey as he meets his friends the first being the squirrel. Together they jump in leaves as they learn about God.

One Big Turkey is a fun book! I love the design and shape of the book! It is filled with beautiful illustrations that include all manner of fall animals and wildlife on each page. It teaches counting and will definitely be read over and over in our house throughout the fall/Thanksgiving season. It's an extra bonus to search each page to see if we can name all the animals pictured. I loved this book! *This book was provided to me by Booklook for my honest review.
