Publisher's Description

Once Upon a Prince, the first novel in the Royal Wedding series by best-selling author Rachel Hauck, treats you to a modern-day fairy tale.

Susanna Truitt never dreamed of a great romance or being treated like a princess—just to marry the man she has loved for twelve years. But life isn’t going according to plan. When her high-school-sweetheart-turned-Marine-officer breaks up instead of proposing, Susanna scrambles to rebuild her life.

The last thing Prince Nathaniel expects to find on his American holiday to St. Simons Island is the queen of his heart. A prince has duties, and his family’s tense political situation has chosen his bride for him. When Prince Nathaniel comes to Susanna’s aid under the fabled Lover’s Oak, he is blindsided by love.

Their lives are worlds apart. He’s a royal prince. She’s an ordinary girl. But everything changes when Susanna receives an invitation to Nathaniel’s coronation.

It’s the ultimate choice: His kingdom or her heart? God’s will or their own?

"This is classic romance at its very best." —DEBBIE MACOMBER

"[A] surprisingly believable royal-meets-commoner love story. With only a subtle nod to Cinderella, this modern and engaging tale follows the budding relationship of an American Southern girl and a pseudo-Brit prince . . . Hauck fans will find a gem of a tale." —Publishers Weekly STARRED REVIEW for Once Upon a Prince

This was a nice romantic story. It was tough for Susanna to rebuild her life after all the plans she had laid out in front of her were torn apart, but it opened her up to meeting Nathaniel and he was not just a prince in title but in personality as well. 3 1/2 stars - Full review at my website.

I enjoyed this book, even if I did read it AFTER a "March Bride" (the conclusion to Susannah's romance with Nathaniel). Parts were a little hard to believe, like Prince/King Nate's ability to get away from crowds and duties for hours at a time without security, or even his taking an American vacation in the first place, as his father was dying of leukemia. A few sections dragged a bit or felt unnecessary, such as Suz working for Gage a second time. But overall, it's a fun read - a modern day fairy tale to enjoy between more serious books. Rachel Hauck has a delicious way of weaving characters/families/small towns that you'd love to meet and get to know in real life. Her wedding books are delightfully clean romances where God is honored and at work, revealing His love through the trials and tribulations of eros.

How to Catch a Prince by Rachel Hauck is a lovely modern-day fairy tale for those of us who need something more than a Disney Princess to satisfy our need for a good love story. While this book is third in Hauck's The Royal Wedding Series, it easily stands alone. For me, this title was definitely a page-turner I would love to see made into a movie. It is laced was some serious heart issues, but is not so heavy that you miss the whimsy of a good princess story.

How to Catch a Prince is a good mix of reality and imagination. Think of the movie Enchanted staring Amy Adams (without all of the singing and animation) meets Touched by an Angel. There are moments of divine intervention, angels sent to help out two people who were meant to love and serve together. I thought it was fabulous. Author Rachel Hauck has done a marvelous job writing this series. FIVE STARS from this book blogger!!!

I would add a PG rating to this book. It is clean and totally appropriate for a teenage girl. Having said that, I never thought it lacked the meatiness for an adult read. I am simply saying this would be a great title to read along with your daughter! A fairy tale with values is always a wonderful thing!

I was given a complimentary copy of this book by its publisher and BookLookBloggers in exchange for an honest review. I have not been compensated and all opinions are my own.

One of the reasons I started to "blog for books" was to branch outside my world of non-fiction, gaining exposure to a range of genres and authors outside of the human trafficking/poverty/ justice related readings I tend to gravitate toward. For the most part the experience of blogging for books has been rewarding and has put some good reads in my lap that I would have ignored were it not for the fact that I received a copy for free.

And then, there are times that I just don't connect with a read. Sadly, this was the case with Once Upon A Prince. I just didn't connect with the characters or storyline in a way that I felt drawn into their world or circumstances.

I think the primary reason I felt disconnected from the arc of this novel is because I am not a fan of insta-love. I recognize this theme is central to many young adult and contemporary romance novels, but I think it's harmful. I think insta-love is damaging to a healthy perception of relationships. I think insta-love undermines the amount of work required to maintain a long-term relationship rooted in commitment and sacrifice. And, I think insta-love sets unrealistic expectations for the psychological, emotional, and social development of trust in relationships.

Now, having said that, once I was able to remove the "insta-love-dislike" cap I was able to finish the novel and find value in the author's intent. I think Once Upon a Prince was well written, presenting many important themes such as loyalty, social expectations, family roles and responsibility, finding one's way according to personal passion and interest verse outside pressure _ all issues that a reader can relate to in one way or another.

So, while this particular novel may not have been my cup of tea, I think Rachel Hauck to be a gifted writer and am interested in picking up some of her other works outside the Royal Wedding/A Year of Weddings series.

(I received a complimentary copy from Zondervan Publishers via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.)

I received a copy of this book from Book Sneeze in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a cute, light little romance, typical of modern day fairy tales, with Christian overtones. This was the first Christian romance book I've read and I wasn't sure how I would like it. This was also the first romance book that I've read that didn't have a single kiss in it till the end. Really?!

I've read some pretty raunchy books, and enjoyed them. I was pleasantly surprised to see that I enjoyed this book just as much. That the raunchiness wasn't necessary for the enjoyment.

However, I will say that there were parts of this book that dragged, but in the end it was nice to see that true love overcomes all. It being a Christian romance, God had a big hand in it.
