"In writing it [Bible History: Old Testament] I have primarily had in view those who teach and those who learn, whether in the school or in the family. But my scope has also been wider. I have wished to furnish, what may be useful for reading in the family,--what indeed may, in some measure, serve the place of a popular exposition of the sacred history. More than this, I hope it may likewise prove a book to put in the hands of students, to show them what the Bible really teaches."
Alfred Edersheim (1825-89) was a Vienna-born biblical scholar who converted from Judaism to Christianity. A veteran minister and missionary to the Jews of Romania, Edersheim left an enduring and priceless legacy to followers of Christ. Among his most widely read works are The Life and Times of Jesus the Messiah, The Temple: Its Ministry and Services, and Bible History Old Testament.

James Henderson5 Stars Out Of 5March 17, 2009James HendersonAn excellent history from Adam to the Babylonian capitivity. It is broken into many different and small chapters, rather then just a few very large ones. As a result, searching for a particular period is easy to find. This is not a book of doctrine but is a history book only. I highly recommend this work for anyone that wants to know more about Old Testament history.
Esther Marie Lawrence5 Stars Out Of 5June 6, 2008Esther Marie LawrenceThis book is fascinating and well worth purchasing. I found insight and information here that I had not seen in any other commentary. The chapters are well organized and it was easy to find the specific sections I was interested in. I haven't had time to read it cover to cover, but I certainly will at some point. I'm just a lay person doing research, by the way. You don't have to be a scholar or a pastor to benefit from this work.
