twocutekids5 Stars Out Of 5WonderfulMarch 30, 2016twocutekidsQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5We have been blessed with hearing Dan Seaborn preach numerous times as well as attending a marriage seminar he lead. These daily devotions are a wonderful example of Dan's realistic approach to life and parenting, often humorous. They are fun to read and are manageable to squeeze into our day. You won't be disappointed if you're looking for a book to give you pause, insight, to lift you up and to bring you back to where you should be.
Day 89 A Dose Of Cheer, was just what I needed on a day with crabby kids and feeling low myself. What makes a cheerful heart? asks Dan and he goes on to detail a cheerful home and how it takes work, then gives a few pointers to get you back on track. I look forward to the rest of the book and when I reach the end will start back at the beginning.
Thank you Mr. Seaborn for writing this devotion, and thank you Zondervan for being constant in the quality of your products!
Side note: This is intended for parents, but it could be used as a family devotion as well. The wisdoms shared in this devotion aren't strictly parenting related either, they have many applications.

Each day's devotion includes a Bible verse, a story to illustrate the verse, a parenting principle, and points to ponder. Each of the story's give parents thoughts on how to help their child or children learn important life lessons. Some of the topics covered include: "Name Game", "Be Honest", "Avoid Wicked", "Get Over It", "Choosing Friends", "Financial Peace", "Purity Test", "Be a Blessing to Grandparents", "Make a Difference", "The Prodigal Child", "God's Instruction", "A Matter of the Heart", "Keeping Balance", "Exercise Control", "What they Want to Hear", "Speak Positively", "Honor First", "Family Matters", "Teach His Word", and "Pray, Pray, Pray". The verse featured with "Pray, Pray, Pray" is "Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful." Colossians 4:2; The Parenting Principle with it is: "A life dedicated to prayer will be a life filled with peace." and Points to Ponder: "How are you dedicated to prayer? Where do you struggle in your prayer life? and How do you pray for your children and teach them this dedication? This would be a wonderful devotional book for parents to use in their own private couples' time along with prayer. I think that older children and teenagers could be included in this devotional reading and it could be adapted to their needs and thoughts. Parents would be able to guide their older children and answer questions they may have about the lesson for the day. The only thing I would have liked to see added to this book would be a little color and illustrations. I rate this book 4 stars and recommend it to readers.
I received a free copy from Zondervan and BookLookBloggers in exchange for my honest review.

I have ordered it for my daughter for Christmas. I have always said the key to raising kids is to reach their hearts. All the rules in the world will not give them a real heart for Jesus and having a relationship with him. I pray I have the hearts of each of my kids.
Dan Seaborn founded Winning At Home in 1995. He served as Pastor of Student Ministries and then the Pastor of Family Life. He has years of counseling families. Dan's focus then and now is to build "real" Christ centered homes for God. As I read through these 365 devotions each is written with that in mind~ reaching your child's heart. I absolutely love this devotional and was so encouraged.
This book has a devotion for each and every day to encourage parents to be real with their children and their God. The devotions spoke volumes to me. One such devotion is titled ~ Overbearing. "What could cause a child to despise a parent-if not during childhood then as an adult?" It talks about how abuse and neglect can do such a thing but also an overbearing parent. It starts out with good intentions but it gets in the way of the child becoming who God wants them to be. Overbearing parents are eager to push their opinions rather than let the children ask for the parent's advice. Dan said these parents need to get out of the way and let their children become adults. He said if you really want to know~ ask your children. Don't be offended when they speak their heart~ because you don't want to be despised. If you have damaged your relationship with your children it takes great work at restoring the relationship.
This is a devotional worth its weight in gold. Each devotion is a wealth of Christian counseling.
I rate this book 5+. Every parent needs to read this and pass it along to any parent. WOW!
This would be the greatest Christmas gift you could give a parent.
