Cat2 Stars Out Of 5Crispy cover and binding, tiny printMarch 18, 2015CatQuality: 2Value: 2Meets Expectations: 2They must have sent me one of the undesirable versions mentioned in the first review. The print is too small for me to read, and too light. It claims to be "typeset in 8.25 pt. on 9.5 pt. Lexicon No.1," whatever that means, but it looks like 6 pt. type to me. The cover is not flexible or soft, so I can't even enjoy "petting" it. It does does not open all the way, so of course it doesn't lay flat, and since I'm planning to return it, I don't want to force it open. I ordered after reading the glowing reviews here, but I just don't think these reviews are talking about the the same bible I received. I really think this is bonded leather, no matter what they printed on the cover.
Isaac Curtis JohnsonClinton, MSAge: 25-34Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5Best NRSV... For NowOctober 24, 2011Isaac Curtis JohnsonClinton, MSAge: 25-34Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This Bible was a total surprise from Cambridge. I purchased a NRSV from Cambridge and it was one of the worst jobs I have ever seen from Cambridge. The leather looked and felt like glossy bonded leather. The leather was so bad that they did not but French Morocco on the Bible, they put "Real Leather" there instead. I heard another reviewer say, "It is like they knew people would question the realness of the leather." The binding was horrendous and would not lay flat. Also the form factor was odd as it looked like a block.
I took a chance, and all the problems have been fixed! The Bible now lays flat and is bound and sewn to perfection. The leather is something special here. Although it is not as soft as Goatskin Leather, it is still soft in its own right with a beautiful grain. Cambridge has actually gone back to putting "French Morocco" on the Bible. This Bible just screams quality and elegance.
The paper in this edition is nice and white, and the print is good and dark. That helps it be very easy on the eyes.
For those who would like to know, this Bible is a text edition of the Bible, so there will not be any cross-references or commentary notes in the text. This Bible also contains the Aprogypha, which in my opinion helps to give a snap shot of the time leading up to the birth of Christ.
I am also surprised at the great price for such a high quality edition from Cambridge. Overall this is truly a great buy for the quality you get
Overall I am truly pleased with this offering from Cambridge, and can safely say this is the best NRSV in print at the moment. I say at the moment because another high end Bible publisher will be releasing a version of the NRSV very soon in Highland Goatskin. So for now this edition from Cambridge is still the top dog.
Todd Bibler5 Stars Out Of 5Great all around bible.February 8, 2011Todd BiblerQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This bible is great. I have been told this is the recommended bible of the Church of England. Rather or not that is true or not I do not know but this bible surpasses all expectations. The leather is great and the binding is unmatched. Another great product from Cambridge.
Ask a Question▼▲
Q: What is the difference between this bible and the catholic edition of the NRSV?
This Bible features the Apocrypha not only from the Roman Catholic tradtion, but also Greek and Slavonic Orthodox traditions. The Apocrypha is also displayed in a separate section rather than integrated into the Old Testament, as it is in Catholic Bibles. Catholic Bibles usually also have an Imprimatur that makes them official Catholic Bibles and authorizes their use - a feature which is not included in this NRSV edition.
Q: size of font
The font in this Bible is 8 point.
