Series: Place of Refuge
What happens when the promise to protect and serve forces a police officer to do the unthinkable ?
Police Officer Ashley Walters is being stalked. Her wedding plans are interrupted by an attack on her fiance, and a detective is shot protecting her. Ashley is forced to flee for her own safety and the lives of those she loves.
Ashley finds refuge in a Mennonite community in Shipshewana, Indiana. But even in a peaceful town among gentle people she cherishes, danger stalks. All she has left is faith. But when faith fails, what survives?
Readers who love suspense coupled with the simplicity of the Mennonite life will eagerly devour book two in the dramatic Place of Refuge series.
RobinVAge: 25-34Gender: female3 Stars Out Of 5It was ok for meFebruary 27, 2013RobinVAge: 25-34Gender: femaleThis is the second book to the series. The background of the characters was brief and left me a little lost as to how everyone knew each other and what was going on. I would recommend you read the first book, Hiding in Plain Sight, Place of Refuge Series #1, before you pick this one up.
Nowhere to Run is a story about faith. Faith is something so many people struggle with. Will we choose to do it all in our own strength or trust in the One who created the universe? This is the battle Ashley Walters is facing.
As I read through the story I felt Ashley had no faith at all. It was her friends telling her to have faith and to put all her trust in God, which she wasn't willing to do until all else failed. I believe Ashley had the same issue in the first book. Maybe in the third book her faith will finally become solid. I really liked the fact that everyone she was surrounded by was pointing her in the right direction-to God.
The story was not as suspenseful as I thought it was going to be which was probably a good thing since it doesn't take much for me to become scared. I was never on the edge of my seat while reading this story, and lacked the "Just one more chapter" feeling keeping me up all night. However, I was totally clueless on who was stalking her and how they were going to catch him.
While the story was laid out well (apparently because something very similar happened to the author), this is not a book I would read again. Maybe its just because I am a lover of historical romance. I thought I would spread my wings a bit so to speak and try a suspense. You may love this book for the reasons I did not!

ACS Book FinderAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Like thrillers? You'll enjoy thisFebruary 7, 2013ACS Book FinderAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Review: Nowhere to Run by Amy Wallace begins with police officer Ashley Walters planning her wedding. Among all the excitement, she cannot seem to shake the feeling that she is being watched. She begins to receive gifts from an admirer. At first she believes them to be from her fiancé, Patrick. She finally realizes that they are from her stalker.
Patrick and her best friend Margo come up with a plan to have her join friends in a small Mennonite community. Ashley fights them but after Patrick is attacked she gives in to their request. The police investigate many different leads but cannot find the stalker. Ashley begins to believe that it is a fellow police officer. She even feels threatened in the Indiana community that should be a safe haven.
Ashley must face many fears. She questions if God is able to protect her and her family and if she will ever be able to marry Patrick. Nowhere to Run is an exciting book. If you like thrillers, you will enjoy trying to figure out who the stalker could be. This book is the second in the Place of Refuge series. I look forward to the next book in this series. (rev. IreneUnited States4 Stars Out Of 5Good suspense in this storyDecember 11, 2012IreneUnited StatesQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4What a suspenseful story! You will love the intrigue in this story and how quickly the story moves from one scene to the next. Ashley Walters is a police officer and finds herself being followed. Fearing for her safety she has to leave her day to day life and hide. She chooses a Mennonite community thinking she will be perfectly safe. Will she be safe or will danger follow!
I gave this book 4/5 stars. I liked the story and thought it did great at being an adventure novel. I did not think it did very well at keeping me interested. The dialogue was hard to get through at times and that made me want to skip parts. I did make it through the whole book but wish it had been better written. I recommend this book for anyone who likes suspenseful stories, Amish fiction or just wants an adventure book to escape into.
I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. I gave an honest review based on my opinion of what I read.
TrudiBath, NYAge: 55-65Gender: female3 Stars Out Of 5Real Danger in a Peaceful CommunityNovember 16, 2012TrudiBath, NYAge: 55-65Gender: femalePolice officer Ashley Walters is busy planning the wedding of her dreams with the help of her best friend Margo and her fiancé Patrick. Her plans are abruptly derailed when she confirms that a stalker has been following her for some time, and the danger is accelerating as her wedding date gets closer. Although she'd like to stay and fight, when Ashley realizes that her friends and loved ones are at risk she seeks refuge in a peaceful Mennonite community in another state, thinking that the stalker will not find her there.
This tension-filled suspense story offers a high level of reality, especially as Ashley and those close to her individually deal with their fear and struggle with their faith. In an "Author's Note", Amy Wallace explains that level of realism by sharing that she was writing while facing a major health crisis and also that she had been the victim of a stalker while in college. Her personal experiences helped to make Nowhere to Run a compelling if unnerving story to read.
As I have not read the first book of this series, I didn't quite comprehend all the connections with the Mennonite community that are referenced in the story. Having that background would have been helpful, although the lack of it did not hinder my understanding of the story itself.
I found a few portions of Nowhere to Run rather disjointed and difficult to read, mainly those dealing with Ashley's emotional struggles and the decisions she made. Ironically, the accuracy of those scenes and messy emotions were a strong factor in making Nowhere to Run more than just an exciting and entertaining suspense novel.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my fair and honest review.
