Publisher's Description
▼▲There really is more to this life than you've been told.
We've been demanding our way since day one ...
"I want a spouse that makes me happy and coworkers that always ask my opinion."
"I want weather that suits me and traffic that helps me and government that serves me."
Self-promotion. Self-preservation. Self-centeredness ...
"It's all about me."
They all told us it was, didn't they? And we took them up on it. We thought self-celebration would make us happy ...
But believing that has created chaos -- noisy homes, stress-filled businesses, cutthroat relationships. We've chased so many skinny rabbits, says Max Lucado, that we've missed the fat one: the God-centered life.
If you want to shift into high gear with purpose, this is it: life makes sense when we accept our place! Our pleasures, our problems, our gifts and talents ... when they're all for the One who created us, we suddenly gain what we've been missing and find what we've been seeking.
Let Max Lucado show you how to make the shift of a lifetime. How to bump your life off self-center. How to be changed and experience the meaning-charged life you were meant to have. Your discovery starts here.

Pursue and RecoverAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5This book is a good read!September 12, 2011Pursue and RecoverAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5It's Not About Me by Max Lucado. (Rescue From A Life We Thought Would Make Us Happy).
This book was found to be enlightning and a reminder that it is not about us.
We live in a society where we often hear the phrase "I'm Doing Me". This book reminds us that we were created by God and we were created for His purpose that our lives bring glory to Him. How we live our lives every day is that we glorfy God in what we do in every area.
This is a two part book.
Part One: God Pondering and Part Two: God Promoting
We are invited to spend some time with God. We are encouraged to look at His purpose and plans for our lives. You will find stories and examples through out both sections that allows us to learn what brings true happiness to our lives without being the center of attention. We are reminded of what our focus should be. We are invited to get to know God intimately and learn that He is the Center of all things.
The author shares how we are to reflect God's glory. We are to mirror His image in our actions. Our lives focused to please God is key. We are to be examples of ambassadors & messengers of His kindness; not messengers of our own cleverness. Our salvation is about showcasing God's mercy. Everything about us is meant to glorify God.
This book is a good read and I would recommend you to add it to your library.

This book pretty much seeks to unpack the title and explore the fact that the world does not revolve around me. I am not the be all and end all of the world and nor should I seek to put myself in that position. It does this by, in part 1, dipping in and out of the Bible showing the character of God culminating in reminding us what He has done for us before posing the question how is this not about me? Part 2 seeks to answer this question and uses a series of analogies to do so.
This book is written in typical Lucado style, full of thoughtful insights, analogies and drawing on personal experiences. It includes a really powerful, well written chapter on legalism as well as touching on real life issues such as sex, struggling and suffering.
This is a well written, biblically sound but easy to read book. -
AnonymousSouth AfricaAge: 35-44Gender: male4 Stars Out Of 5Solid theology, easy to read.August 13, 2011AnonymousSouth AfricaAge: 35-44Gender: maleQuality: 3Value: 3Meets Expectations: 4This book, as with most of the Max Lucado books I have read, was good solid theology. The man really knows his stuff. It is only about 150 pages long, and each chapter is short enough to read quickly and spend some time digesting.
Admittedly not a lot of what he says is original, and is repeated a lot. However there are some truths that we need to keep examining from different directions until we can move them from our heads into our hearts. I can't say that it inspired me to change my life, but it gave me much to think about as I have been contemplating this very theme for a while_ what does it mean to say that it is all about GOD, and not about me.
The study guide in the back is also quite good, and it covers the material from each chapter, so you can use the book as a group study, or personal study, as well as just a good read.
Don't expect anything groundbreaking, but read it anyway. It really is quite good. -
Proverbs 31 WannabeFloridaAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5It's Not About Me ~ A Book ReviewJuly 19, 2011Proverbs 31 WannabeFloridaAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Max Lucado continues to be one of my all-time favorite authors. In true Lucado style, he hooked me in so that I didn't want to put the book down until I finished it. Most of us think our lives are about us. This is a common misconception, as life is not all about us. Our lives are about God and what He wants to in our lives. We were created for His purposes, to praise Him, to reflect His glory. It is difficult to do, but we must move out of the way, so that others see not what we are doing, but what God is doing through us.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would encourage anyone who wants to grow in their walk with God to read this.
