Noah built the mighty ark. Then he called creatures that “crept or crawled or hopped or flew or stomped or tromped, or s-s-slithered too.” Children will love hearing how Noah comforts all the animals on their journey. I never get tired of the story of Noah and the building of the ark. It is such an important lesson that we need to teach our children from a very early age. They need to know about God's provision and His promises even in the storms of life.

Rhonda Greene and Margaret Spengler have combined their talents to once again bring this account to life. You are sure to enjoy Rhonda's rhyming verse that explains in detail what took place all those years ago. Margaret's illustrations are bright and colorful and the characters have such sweet facial expressions.

I appreciated how even the simplest of details about the story were covered. There are details such as the ark being covered in pitch and God Himself shutting the door, that will be important to your children in understanding some of the deeper meanings as they grow older. I can't express how much I love that these things were included and not glossed over. I feel like it is better to teach the story in the correct way from the beginning rather than having to unlearn some things later in life. This is a book that you can trust on the details even though it is a child's storybook.

I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.

As a pastor and Father I am always looking for Children's books that tell bible stories for my two young sons. Originally, I had purchased this book for my older son, but I think a very young child could appreciate this book just as well, because it's all about the bright and beautiful pictures.

Of course this book retells the story of Noah's ark - which admittedly can be a hard subject matter for little ears. Despite what is painted on nursery walls, the story of Noah is not for children. I think the author does a wonderful job of shielding children from the more violent, scary aspects and stays true to the essence of the story.

Again, I think the book works on many levels - small children will love the pictures and enjoy the book being read to them - and older children will enjoy being able to read it for themselves.

Wonderful pictures and a wonderful story, well recommended.

Thank you to Zondervan for this preview copy in exchange for a fair and honest review

Noah and the Mighty Ark is a children's book that can be suitable for the youngest of ages, provided the story is read to them, all the way up to children of 8 years of age. The story has been taken from a well known Bible event from the time of Noah. It has been written in a way which young readers can understand the overall message of it. It tells how Noah was chosen by God to build an ark, collect animals, and for his family to be the ones that re-populate the earth.

From the cover of the book, throughout all the pages within it, and to the very end the illustrations are presented with a soft edge and lots of color depicting each part of the story. The illustrations provide a nice complimentary view to the story's dialogue and narration. The author has done a remarkable job of bringing a Bible event to life for the young readers of our world.

I highly recommend this book to parents with children and young readers around the world.

BookLook Bloggers has provided me with a complimentary copy/advanced reading copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Noah and the Mighty Ark by Rhonda Gowler Greene is a poetic account of the story of Noah and the ark from Genesis 6. I gasped when I opened the front cover because I immediately fell in love with the illustrations. They are superb! The rhyme is beautiful as well, as the story goes through how Noah built the ark, brought the animals on board {a very fun part of the story with the slithering and hopping}, endured the rain and flooding, then landed on Ararat and sent the animals off into the world to multiply.

I have to say that this is a very cute and fun rendition of the Noah story, focusing primarily on the gathering of the animals. Which, don't get me wrong, is great.

But, when I received this book in the mail, I had been eagerly anticipating it and immediately pulled it out and read it aloud to Jeremy. We both agree that we like the rhyme and pictures, but we were a little disappointed at the lack of . . . substance in the story. The Gospel, or any mention of sin, is completely absent in this rendition.

I think that this book can still be a good teaching tool, but it is up to you as the parent to bring out the Gospel in this story.

Rhonda Growler Greene has recently written and release a new children's re-telling of Noah and the ark. The text is rhythmic and somewhat sing/song, one that any child will enjoy over and over. The illustrations by Margaret Spengler are bright and colorful and created with an interesting effect, sometimes a bit of a blur. In my search to find a picture of the cover to share on my blog, I am making an assumption that this is a reprint on a book originally printed in 2007. The release of the current edition is slated for 4/28/14. Grandparents, parents, children from birth through young readers, and librarians will find this copy one to add to their collection to teach children about God's love. I loved it!

I did receive this book free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. I was in no way obligated to leave a positive review.
