I own a few study Bibles, but this is my go-to favorite.
I own this in the burgundy bonded leather and the quality of this Bible is fantastic. It is very sturdy and will last a very, very long time. This Bible lays flat the minute it comes out of the package and the pages hold up really well to marking (I use Pigma Micron pens and avoid ink highlighters). I like that this Bible is in a double column format and there is plenty of room in the margins to write my notes.
I love the NLT translation. Though it's not a word-for-word translation (these tend to be very useful for in-depth word studies), I find this to be the easiest to read, because it reads just like I would talk to somebody. The NIV, NASB, and ESV just do not read as smooth for me. Though certainly I'm sure the NLT translators took some liberty in their translation, I think they did it very well and this is a translation that can be trusted.
The study helps in this Bible are what make it really awesome. The notes are fantastic. I rarely find myself having to look up something elsewhere if there's a verse I need a little more clarification on in my general reading. There are sections on the people that I find so useful when I'm doing a study on a specific person of the Bible. Each book has an introduction that goes over the author, the date it was written, themes, historical background, and purpose. There's a small Hebrew-Greek word study system in the back of this Bible, along with a really great dictionary/concordance, topical index, and maps. There's even one page dedicated for some notes, front and back, though I really wish they had included several more.
Sometime unique to this Bible is the reading plan in the back. The reading plan first tells you how you can read the entire Bible in certain amounts of time. The reading plan itself is divided by the different books of the Bible. Each book tells you to read the introduction, then read just the text itself, then go back and read the text again along with the study notes. This is the first reading plan that I feel utilizes itself as a real study tool.
Bought this as a graduation gift for my niece. I may eventually buy one for myself. Love all the information at your fingertips. I usually read the Bible every day on a one-year plan. I do this over a website. It still is great to have something in hand to underline and go back to read.
Better than expected. I am very pleaseed. I got the thumb indexed hardcover. The Bible fits the cover I ordered for it, like a glove. Just the right amount of space around it. I bought the extra large size red "ballistic" cover for it. Matches nicely too...though a burgundy would also go well. Bible is perfect...has lots of exposition and many references to look up as you study. Concordance and dictionary in back. Also has the words of Christ in red, book introductions, some areas of specific exegesis for critical areas/studies, a subject index, reading plan, maps in color and some in black and white that are inserted within the text. I really love the thumb indexed version...I try to get it in all my Bibles. It's helpful and attractive too. I definitely recommend this Bible to everyone. And it's at a price most people can easily afford. Thanks CBD.
