This Bible is a great size 8 1/4 x 5 1/4 x 1 3/4. This book block is the same as the Caxton, printed and bound by Jongbloed in the Netherlands. The paper and the bold size 9 single column print are excellent! This a wonderful reading Bible, with the references on the outer page edges. The page edges have gold gilt, but no art gilt. The calfskin is thicker and softer than the clarion and like the clarion it has a paste down synthetic inner liner. The liner gives the cover a little more stiffness but it opens at the hinges very well and is very comfortable in one hand for reading. Probably the one weak point of this Bible are the two thin ribbon markers. They are brown and are soft and have a woven pattern and are subject to fraying. I knew this in advance, so I bought some fray/check fluid dabbed it on the ends of the ribbon markers and it did the trick!

This Bible for the price is a good purchase ($124.95) about $70.00 cheaper than the goatskin edition!

Just received my bible...and I am very pleased! The goat-skin is soft, the size and weight of the bible are perfect. My last bible, which just fell apart after one year (!!!) was large print, so I was a bit concerned that this would be difficult to read. WIth the 9 point font, it is smaller than the large, but not uncomfortable with good light. I have never spent this much on a bible purchase before, but after transferring all my notes to the Bible that just fell apart, I was going to spend the money to get myself one that would last a life-time. I am excited to use it this evening. I would highly recommend.....wish I would have done this a year ago!!!

    First Impressions

Like a glove. That was my first impression of the NLT Select Reference in Brown Goatskin--it fit in my hands like a glove. This is likely one of the best proportioned Bibles out there regarding it's size and layout. The goatskin is spongy and supple. The pages are creamy and smooth. The single column text layout is extremely well thought out (I believe this is the "Caxton" layout) and easy on the eyes. I honestly wish this particular Bible was offered in other translations. The dark brown cover is attractive and feels highly durable. The one area where I feel Tyndale went on the "cheap" side was the ribbon markers-they almost feel like shoelaces. That said, I can EASILY overlook that as the rest of the Bible is amazing. Even though the NLT is my secondary translation, this Bible seems to end up in my hands more and more. I will end up keeping this in my Library until I can no longer read size 9pt font--so hopefully that will be MANY years down the road. Lastly, if the ESV Single Column Heirloom and the ESV Clarion Goatskin had a "baby," you would end up with this Bible.

    Readability

One of the best reading Bibles (outside of designated "Reader's Bibles") I have ever seen. The cream colored pages, single column format, size 9pt font, line matched text and and generous spacing between lines; makes this Bible one of the best reading experiences on the market. I have always believed single column text makes for a more enjoyable reading experience and this Bible proves it. Not only in the poetry sections, but throughout the entire text. Another feature that I have not encountered prior to this Bible was how it lays out genealogies or family trees. Numbers chapter 1 was the first time I noticed it (see pic below). Instead of bunching the names and numbers in paragraph form, this layout breaks it out and creates a list that is easier to read and comprehend. Regarding the weight and size, this Bible is not too heavy to read for a long period of time. Due to the binding, this Bible lays completely flat, Genesis-Revelation, which makes the reading experience all the more enjoyable. I am not sure if you could find a better reading Bible.

    Recommended Uses

Nearly everything. This Bible may be inferior to a double column Bible for preaching and teaching, but I honestly think this Bible could still be used with very little trouble for teaching and preaching. I would HIGHLY recommend this Bible for personal devotions or straight Bible reading. Also, it does have cross references running vertically on the outer margins which will prove helpful when studying. This Bible is slightly larger than a compact or thinline Bible, but still portable enough to cart around wherever with you.

I just wanted to emphasize that the craftsmanship of this Bible is exquisite; most other reviews have covered above and beyond what I can attempt to do. This Bible will definitely be something worth handing down that should hold up well and age beautifully with time.

The text is clear and easy to read, the size is ideal and handles well when reading. I like that there is no center column, oversized margins and text goes from one side of the page to the other. Each chapter is titled accordingly to the content.

The leather is supple and feels premium.

This Bible is a pleasure to use in my nightly Scripture readings.

Thank you Tyndale for bringing about a beautifully crafted Bible that compliments the importance of its content.

This Bible's large, clear font makes for extremely comfortable reading, even for extended periods of time. The deep, chocolate brown goatskin leather is supple and soft. The Bible fits nicely in the hand and is light and portable enough to read anywhere. While the pages are thin, this is offset by the great size and clarity of the print. If they had made the paper any thicker, the Bible would have been too heavy to hold in the hand. Because this version is perfect for reading, the tradeoff of page thickness is worth it to preserve this ideal weight and size. This is a fantastically well-crafted Bible that rivals those renown UK publishers.
