Athletejmv5 Stars Out Of 5A beautifully crafted Bible that reads well; excellent work Tyndale!November 12, 2016AthletejmvQuality: 5Value: 4Meets Expectations: 5I just wanted to emphasize that the craftsmanship of this Bible is exquisite; most other reviews have covered above and beyond what I can attempt to do. This Bible will definitely be something worth handing down that should hold up well and age beautifully with time.
The text is clear and easy to read, the size is ideal and handles well when reading. I like that there is no center column, oversized margins and text goes from one side of the page to the other. Each chapter is titled accordingly to the content.
The leather is supple and feels premium.
This Bible is a pleasure to use in my nightly Scripture readings.
Thank you Tyndale for bringing about a beautifully crafted Bible that compliments the importance of its content.
PoetLawyer5 Stars Out Of 5Excellent Reading Bible, NLT Select Reference Ed. Brown GoatskinJune 19, 2016PoetLawyerQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This Bible's large, clear font makes for extremely comfortable reading, even for extended periods of time. The deep, chocolate brown goatskin leather is supple and soft. The Bible fits nicely in the hand and is light and portable enough to read anywhere. While the pages are thin, this is offset by the great size and clarity of the print. If they had made the paper any thicker, the Bible would have been too heavy to hold in the hand. Because this version is perfect for reading, the tradeoff of page thickness is worth it to preserve this ideal weight and size. This is a fantastically well-crafted Bible that rivals those renown UK publishers.
Matt5 Stars Out Of 5NLT: Select Reference edition Calfskin BrownJanuary 4, 2016MattQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5There are plenty of reviews/pictures/blog posts of the new Tyndale Select Reference in goatskin but I haven't seen any about the calfskin edition of the Tyndale Select. So I'll just provide some short comments about the calfskin binding of mine in the brown. I was expecting a calfskin binding identical to Cambridge's Clarion Reference Bible in brown calfskin, considering that the Tyndale Select and Clarion are bound in the same place by Jongbloed in the Netherlands. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised that this Bible has a much more pronounced grain pattern. It also seems a bit thicker as well, and the leather is extremely soft to the touch. Although this Bible is NOT leather lined, just like the Cambridge Clarion in brown calfskin, it has an overall much more luxurious feel to it. The quality is very good, and for $120, I think the value is great. This Bible exceeded my expectations.
Paddy5 Stars Out Of 5Tyndale Select NLT in Brown CalfskinNovember 10, 2015PaddyQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Currently, there are only a couple of single column NLTs on the market the Tyndale Select and the Schuyler Caxton--which were both were released about the same time. This is unfortunate because the NLT is such a reader's translation. After weighing my options I decided that the Tyndale Select in calfskin gave me what I was looking for at a reasonable price.
When I first opened the box I was a little surprised at how stiff the calfskin leather was and wondered if I have made the wrong decision by taking the cheaper option. But after a little use this leather is just right. After one week of daily use the leather was dramatically softer and now after almost a month of use it is just right. I have not handled the goatskin--which I'm sure is great-- but I do have other calfskin and goatskin Bibles and let me say this. The calfskin used on the Tyndale Select is both thicker and softer than my other calfskin Bible and feels sturdier than my other goatskin Bible. To me that is a great combination. The more I use this Bible the more I appreciate the calfskin and have no regrets.
The calfskin option does not come with red under gold art gilded pages, and I am okay with that. To me, red under gold can make a Bible look "stuffy" I know that is my personal opinion and other may not agree, but I would rather not have it if given the option. The two brown ribbons are just right in size and color. I also appreciate the plain cover complemented by minimal printing on the spine.
The Tyndale Select is all about readability. The single column layout lets you read the Bible like a book, not a dictionary. The references on the outside of the page and the footnotes at the bottom of the page are helpful when you need them but out of the way most of the time. Line over line printing keeps ghosting to a minimum. The size and style of the font keep things nice and clear as well. One thing that I noticed and greatly appreciate is the space between the lines. The Tyndale Select has more space than any other single column Bible that I own and I feel like they got it just right. Put all of that together and you have a Bible that is comfortable to sit down and read from.
If I Could Change Anything:
If I could change anything I think I would only change one thing. I wish there were a few more blank pages in the back. Currently, there are two in the front and two in the back. This is pretty standard for a Bible like this, but my personal preference would be to have four or more blank pages in the back. But that is just me.
While the leather was a concern right out of the box, it has quickly become my best feeling Bible in hand. The leather is a perfect balance of sturdy and soft. The overall look is clean and simple, which is a great thing to me. Overall this is a great Bible that I would recommend to anyone looking for a high quality or single column NLT.
Dr.Ron5 Stars Out Of 5High qualityOctober 16, 2015Dr.RonQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Tyndale Select NLT
I have just opened the box with the newest edition of Tyndales New Living Translation Select Bible in brown goatskin. It is amazing. The upscale binding is satisfyingly soft and floppy in the hand. The natural full-grain brown goatskin cover is edged-lined to maximize its suppleness. With two brown ribbons markers, perimeter stitching, and gold foil frame around the inside and matching brown inside cover it is has a premium appearance. It has gold over red art-gilding on the page edges. And the pages are Smyth-sewn. The quality of this hand made Bible speaks of durability as well as beauty. The trim size is about 5 by 8 by 1 inches. I love the fact the cover is plain with no lettering. The spine has a very simple but classy gold lettering imprint of Holy Bible, with New Living Translation and Tyndale.
But where it really shines for me in the single column text layout in 8.75 point type. This is a readers Bible. The printing is dark and contrasts nicely with the high quality Bible paper. No words of Christ in red for this edition which is my personal favorite. The line over line printing minimizes show through for easy readability and it has generous margins. As a study bible, it has over 40,000 cross references. I really like the dictionary/concordance resource of this edition.
This is a high quality, durable and beautiful easy to carry edition of my favorite contemporary translation. Assembled by Jongbloeds bindery in the Netherlands this is the finest Bible ever to come from Tyndale. I am going to see that my grandchildren all get one for graduation gifts. I give this an unequivocal five star rating.
