Excellent Bible, Hugely Beneficial For Study

The black genuine leather NKJV version won't ship to Canada for some reason, so I bought this off Amazon.

Fantastic Bible! If you like to study the Bible and don't have one of these Thompson Chain References, I would strongly suggest you pick one up.

Cover/Binding - 5/5, the genuine leather is a really good quality genuine leather. Some genuine leathers are very stiff and feel like they'll crack easily, this is a thick, sturdy yet somewhat flexible and soft (for a genuine leather) cover. The binding is smyth sewn, which is the best option for longevity in a Bible (as opposed to glued bindings).

Paper - 4/5, the paper isn't high end yet it's much better than a lot of Bibles now, I'll explain. The paper isn't incredibly white, but it's a nice tone which I like. The thing about this paper is that light will glare on it in certain lighting, not too much that it will affect your reading I would say, but you can notice it. The ghosting is very minimal in this Bible compared to most in the price range and lower, less ghosting than a lot of premium Bibles have. There is no line matching on this Bible, but it's not a problem seeing as the ghosting isn't bad.

Font - 5/5, I actually really like the font on this Bible, size 8 but a large size 8, it's bigger type than Cambridge's size 8, plus there is more space between lines which makes reading much better.

Study tools - 5/5, I love the chain reference system, it's really handy for studying. There is also a lot of other information in the back, diagrams, graphs, character studies etc, there has been a LOT of work put into this Bible over the years, you can tell that by looking through it.

Cons - The actual print is imperfect, you'll find a couple sections (or in mine anyway) where the print is somewhat dim from the printer getting low on it's ink, there are a few sections like that, so it's not flawless but it's not a big deal.

I have this Bible on my desk when I'm doing my studies, it's not my main Bible for reading and note taking, but it's always beside when I am studying in my other ones for reference as I work through sections.

If you can afford it, I recommend this Bible!

**I will note, the bonded leather version of this uses really bad bonded leather, make no mistake about it, the bonded leather version will not last nearly as long as the genuine leather version. If you plan on using the Bible a lot for a number of years, I'd recommend spending the extra money on the genuine leather, but either will provide you with a fantastic well crafted Bible!

Great study Bible with more useful references and less false doctrine

To many "study Bibles" are mostly teaching by someone with his own version of Christianity. This is one of the few that stick with God's word. The Thompson Chain Reference system does take a little effort to get used to, but it is a great way to find Bible passages relevant to your study. There are no short cuts to Bible knowledge. Everyone has questions when they read the Bible. If you just drop your eyes down to the bottom of the page and get someone else's explanation, you are not learning God's word, you are just learning what the writer thinks. Even if the topical chains are not "perfect", you are always asking yourself "what do these passages say about my question?". Take that extra effort and you will always find more verses on your topic than if you did not use the references. God bless your Bible study,

On top of that, it is a well made Bible and easy to read font. And go for the nicer leather cover, it just feels better and you will be using it for a long time. Personally, I don't like the thumb index, you will get used to the order of the books and then the cut outs for the index are in the way and begin to wear out. That's just me. The index is very popular.

My favorite and, in my opinion, the absolute best Study Bible you can get is The Thompson Chain-Reference Bible (in NKJV of course). I have a TCR that I received as my first Fathers Day gift the year my daughter was born (2004). It is still in great condition and I use it regularly in my lesson and sermon preparations.

What makes the TCR such a good Study Bible is that it doesnt have commentary on the verses. Rather, it has topical listings that link verses together. It is a great tool in line with the popular saying, The Bible is its own best commentary. It also has a lot of good chart lessons and book overviews.

As always, great delivery time by Christianbook. In terms of craftsmanship, superb quality. I own a variety of study bibles, which are very helpful, however, this is truly a reference bible. God's most precious holy word comes first, and you can look up things in it for yourself. If you prefer to learn by looking things up for yourself, this bible is probably for you. Don't be mistaken, the added sections are fantastic, and I'd buy it for the archaelogical supplement alone, but this is a participatory bible, not for spoon feeding. And although the system is over a hundred years old, it's been updated nicely and good work never goes bad.
