NKJV in Hard-to-Find Format
January 7, 2016
This Bible is marketed toward girls, and I, a 50+ year-old man bought it for myself, and I use it. Why? I didn't find this same version, format, and low price with any other cover.
True confessions time: Although I've been a Christian for many, many years, I've never taken the initiative to actually read ALL of the Bible. That is changing, and this version, in this format, is just the ticket. I chose this Bible because it was the best one available for the task, in that it is NKJV, printed in a single-column format, spaced according to paragraphs, not verses, and has no reference notations (although it does have the common NKJV language-related footnotes). In other words, it looks and reads more like a book. Reading about Samson and Delilah, or Solomon and the Queen of Sheba, or Ahab and Jezebel, or Elijah with the widow, just seems to flow much more readily and vividly when I am using this format.
As for the book itself, I think of it as the highest-quality among lower-end Bibles. Just as described, it has no page gilding or ribbon, and is all black ink. The product description says that the binding is sewn, but to me, it has a feel more like that of a book whose binding is glued, and the cover is just a tad stiff (I've got other "imitation leather" covers that are softer and more pliable), so it isn't quite as flexible in the hand as a "higher-end" Bible.
But the paper is strong, the printing is bright and even, and the book has withstood my abuse so far, with no signs of wear or degradation.
Regardless of your gender and age, if you are looking for a NKJV Bible in an easy-reading, book-like format, then I HIGHLY recommend this one - for the price (if you can stand the cover), you can't go wrong.
