Ashley F2 Stars Out Of 5I want to love this Bible, but the lack of quality in it's construction is making that difficult.October 7, 2015Ashley FQuality: 2Value: 2Meets Expectations: 2I bought this Bible for the first time a little over 2 years ago (in September 2013). A few months later, it fell apart. About 5 pages in the front just came out. I really loved the way this Bible looked, it's truly beautiful. I also loved the Life Application aspect and felt as though it helped me immensely in understanding how to apply God's word to my life. Because I was such a fan of the Bible's look and content, I decided to give it another try and I ordered a replacement. Less than 6 months after receiving my 2nd Bible, that one fell apart as well.
Fast-forward to today and I'm currently using my 4th or 5th Bible (this same exact style) that I've purchased from here in 2 years. Sadly, I wasn't surprised when I opened my Bible yesterday and saw that a chunk of pages in the back had fallen out.
I think it's important to explain how I use my Bible, so readers of this review can understand what lead to the pages falling out. I'm a relatively obsessive person, I need things to be properly taken care of and in good order. My bible is not different. I have made a point to keep my bible in a case at all times to avoid any unnecessary strain. I also keep it on my desk and away from any potential "risk" when I'm not using it. I do use it every day though. In the morning, I read from my devotional booklet and then read at least a couple chapters from my Bible. I won't deny that my Bible is used daily, but it is also well protected and diligently cared for. I couldn't recall a single incident in which my Bible was put under any strain that would cause them to fall apart the way they have. Furthermore, in my opinion, Bible's are supposed to be our guide and we are supposed to read them every day in order to learn what He has to tell us. Right? So, it stands to reason that a Bible should be built for daily reading as long as it's properly handled and protected. Yet, I can't get this Bible to last 6 months.
Honestly, if I thought that these loose pages were the worst of it, I wouldn't bother saying anything. However, if loose pages happen within 6 months, I can only imagine what it would look like after a few years. I have been blessed to be the most recent owner of my grandfather's bible. I say blessed because my grandfather was an inspirational man after God's own heart and his Bible was his most precious possession. Even though that Bible was bought in 1951 and used every single day without any protective cover or case, it's still in surprisingly good condition. My question is, where can I find a Bible constructed like that? Sadly, this Bible is not.
In conclusion, this Bible is BEAUTIFUL, but it is NOT FUNCTIONAL. You can set it within a glass enclosure and look at it, but you can't use it. I'm really sad to say this, but after giving it 4 or 5 tries, I'm going to have to give up on this beautiful Bible and instead find one that may not look as lovely but is built to be read.

seekerGender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Beautiful NKJV study BibleMay 6, 2013seekerGender: FemaleI ordered both this Bible and the 1984 NIV Renaissance leather Life Appl study Bible, and my adult daughter chose this one. The NKJV is our favorite translation, and this is a beautiful Bible, although it has a simulated leather cover. I would have preferred a premium quality genuine leather (such as Renaissance leather) cover, but couldn't find one for NJKV. The cover on this Bible is pretty, however, and is soft, smooth, and fairly supple. It doesn't look cheap, and the teal trim adds an elegant touch. I prefer this cover material over bonded leather, which is too stiff.
The black Renaissance leather on the other (1984 NIV) Bible is very supple and highest quality. Unfortunately, I can't find any other Bibles with such premium leather covers.
Both Bibles have the same Life Application study notes and lots of good features as described. They are larger than a personal size Bible, but not too large considering all the study notes. Very nice Bible and I'm glad I found it.
