This Bible is written in the NKJV translation, making this a much easier to comprehend version of the Bible than the KJV. It contains stories of American's Women's history that are both inspiring and amazing in their courage and grace. These stories are chosen to complement the books of the Bible they immediately precede.
Other than the stories and quotes from each of these famous, and not so famous (at least to me) American women, the NKJV bible hasn't changed, and it offers nothing more to the reader. In fact, I'm not quite sure why I would buy this bible, or who I would buy it for. Perhaps it is a way to show how the Bible is not quite as old and crusty as some can believe it to be, how relatable it is to "modern" history (some may think that the 1960s is ancient history!). Other than being able to say, yes there is a Bible that also handles inspiring American women, it really does nothing for me.
DalynYakima, WaAge: 35-44Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Interesting IdeaJuly 21, 2016DalynYakima, WaAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0The idea of this Bible interspersed with a collection of history bits on American Women, from quotes to short essays and more, is an intriguing one.
It was well done and the pieces are well- written but I have to be honest and say I'm not entirely sure why I would want to buy this Bible. I shared it with a few friends and asked their opinions as to its usefulness in their own lives and it was generally agreed that while it might be useful in a history class or literature even perhaps, it's not likely any of them were likely to seek it out and purchase it. These were other homeschool moms.
I think it might be a thoughtful gift for a history buff, teacher, etc.
I enjoyed looking through and my interest was caught and held by the history narratives here and there throughout the text.
In the back are lists of biographies by page number, people and topics also by page number and a basic Bible Concordance.
The front has a presentation page, table of contents and introduction as well as a preface to the New King James Version.
As you can see the text is double columns and a nice sized font printed in dark blue. Headings look dark red to me.
This Bible is published by Harper Collins.
Overall what's to complain about except I would have liked to see a few maps, but it's a nice, quality Bible.

"There is no pit so deep, that God's love is not deeper still."
"What wings are to a bird, and sails to a ship, so is prayer to the soul."
"To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover the prisoner was you."
The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: Deut. 33:27a. Treasury of Scripture ~ Elisabeth Elliot Gren (1926-2015) was a mentor to me through her writings, radio programs, and especially, her "do the next thing" was so beneficial to me.

Floyd JohnsonUpstate NYAge: 55-65Gender: male4 Stars Out Of 5American Woman's BibleJuly 11, 2016Floyd JohnsonUpstate NYAge: 55-65Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 3I have stumbled upon other Bibles using American history as the source notes, devotional thoughts, or commentary. However, I found this edition to be of greater value that those that have crossed my path in the past.
The notes focus on the role that Christian Women have played in American history and how their lives have exemplified the role Christ, Scripture, and the church has had in preparing them for those roles. This is accomplished by including biographical sketches, quotations that have shaped others by or about American women, and a series of essays focusing on the virtues that have shaped our nation and the women who have been a part of that history.
My biggest disappointment is that the publisher chose to name only one male author of the book: Dr. Richard G. Lee. I suspect, like most Study Bibles and Devotional Bibles, the work was a collaboration of many scholars and spiritual leaders - but they are totally unnamed, either in a list of contributors or as the authors of individual pieces of writing. It would seem, to this reviewer, that if we have a Bible focused on the contributions of women to history, its contents should in some way be guided by women. I do not know where the error was made - in not giving credit for the womens contribution or in not allowing women to contribute - but it seems that an error was made.
Having said that, this Bible edition does have value - just less than it might. The collection of biographies and quotes might help a pastor in preparation for next Sundays message. The devotional thoughts could easily be used by a teen or adult Sunday School teacher or Bible Study leader in preparation for next weeks lesson. My copy will sit on a night stand for my wife and I use with our personal devotions. I do expect that others will find it a blessing.
