toj4 Stars Out Of 5Theology Light!December 20, 2016tojQuality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This isn't a normal study Bible, there aren't dozens of footnotes on each page. It starts off most of the features with a statement of doctrine for the articles, commentaries and devotions which are scattered throughout. This is a Bible with a broad scope which it acknowledges in the beginning sections. To quote: "Every Christian tradition has a theological tradition. Some verses and teachings are more central than others....We recognize that every branch of Christianity has some theological gift to bring to the banquet of Christian teaching." To also quote from the Foreword: "It's for anyone who bumps into problems not necessarily addressed in purely practical handbooks on Christian living - when the diagrams don't seem to fit reality." I appreciate how the articles flow with the text and how it is not as cluttered without all the footnotes making it easier for me to just read one or the other.
As for for the Bible itself...the font is a nice size and it is easy to read. The paper is a good thickness. There are red chapter numbers and headings but no words of Christ in red. I wanted thumb indexing so got the Italian duotone version but it feels like plastic so not sure how long it will hold up. I would have liked to have seen more than 12 Up for Debate tables which present topics and their differing viewpoints, and the 8 charts reviewing theological concepts and arguments, but the Living Parable and Doctrine 101 articles gets into some of that discussion as well at times.
I like and would recommend this Bible to others, but do acknowledge that it may not be for everyone. It could be deemed theology light for what it is missing or for the sometimes mild mannered approach of the content for what is there. Regardless of that, it can make you think. If I were to compare it to another Bible it would be the Apply the Word Study Bible.
