This review was written for NIV Thinline Bible, Black, Thumb-Indexed.
Newly released from Zondervan is this New International Version thinline Bible in a black bonded leather. Many times, a more compact version of the Bible has a print font that makes it difficult to read but these 54 year old eyes had no problem reading this 9.4 font. I also loved the fact that Jesus' words are in red, something that doesn't seem so common these days in newer Bible releases. I would say my favorite part of this Bible edition is the thumb indexes for those harder to locate books. The inside of the book is covered in a beautiful gray marbled paper and the edition contains two attached ribbon bookmarks for easily being able to pick up where you left off.

There aren't any "extras" in this edition except for a chart of weights and measurements in the back. No maps. No commentary. No illustrations of any other sort. However, this helps keep the Bible lightweight and perfect for carrying to church or vacation. Leave the heavier study Bibles for home use.

Personally, I think this Bible is the perfect size. I hope it comes in a variety of colors. I did receive this edition free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review and am in no way obligated to leave a positive review.

The only complaint I have is the bible doesn't come in a box, it comes in a sleeve. We order bibles for new members in our church and I think the bible looks like it's an inexpensive bible. Also, a few of the sleeves were bent, therefore the bible wouldn't slide in and out easily. Other than the box issued and no map and concordance, I liked the bible.

I was surprised by the price especially for a NIV bible. The formatting was not good at all when it comes to books like Psalms, Proverbs and some of the Prophets. There is too much space or some call real estate on the ereader with these books. Other publishers do a BETTER job of formatting.

If one could sample a Bible and check this out before buying, it would be Great. But the sample can not go as far as Psalms to see it. I would NOT recommend this Bible for this reason. Bible publishers, perhaps should look into this.

This Bible does have red letters, however does not have a concordance nor maps. This was a replacement for my Bible with the same ISBN purchased in 2009 (in a bookstore). It is lightweight and HAS RED LETTERS. I was a little bit disappointed that unlike my other Bible, this one DOESNT HAVE MAPS OR A CONCORDANCE. I commend Christianbook.com for their customer service. If they ever accidentally send a defective item, they will gladly send a replacement without any issue or hassles. Thank you.

This review was written for NIV Thinline Bible, Tan/Dark Tan Duo-Tone.
I really love the updated NIV. I grew up on the NIV, and I find this update to be accurate and clear. As far as the actual Bible: I LOVE the softness of the imitation leather, and the tan is lovely. I did have to buy a 2nd copy because the print in the first copy I had was so faint, I could hardly read it. Plus, some of the pages were strangely bound, and I had issues with them. It's nice to be able to see before you buy. This isn't exclusive to this Bible in particular. My only true complaint, and the only reason I didn't give it a 5, is due to the lack of maps and a concordance. My original NIV thinline had both and was just as thin. I do wish the ink was darker, and the red true. It is more of an orange/red neon, and the ink is light at times. If it were darker, it wouldn't matter so much the font size. I have actually written to Zondervan concerning this. Fantastic companion for my Bible study class and toting around. I do not prefer study Bibles due to the doctrinal slants, so this is my go-to--plain text.
