ReadingrambleCanadaGender: female5 Stars Out Of 5great simple Bible!January 23, 2018ReadingrambleCanadaGender: femaleQuality: 3Value: 3Meets Expectations: 4My Reflections:
I was thrilled to receive this Bible for many reasons, a few of which are it is the absolute perfect size to travel with you to church or in an oversized purse, but not so small that you are not comfortable reading it.
I loved that it was the NIV version with a super easy readable 9.4 font size. My favorite aspect of this Bible is that it is Indexed!! I can never find indexed Bibles, and I love it. Having the index makes finding scriptures a snap!
Though this version is simple in design and does not come with a lot of the extras, I think is the perfect blend of functionality and simplicity. One other great feature in this Thinline Bible is that it has two ribbons to mark your place, now that's handy!
All in all, I am loving this Bible a fantastic addition to any home, office or as a gift.
I received this Bible free of charge in return for my honest review from the Book Look Bloggers program, thank you Book Look!
Scotty4 Stars Out Of 5My kind of Bible, just not my favorite translation ...January 8, 2018ScottyQuality: 3Value: 4Meets Expectations: 2Ive never been a fan of the NIV, or New International Version Bible, but millions of people are. If you like this translation and are looking for a basic, easily portable Bible, the newly released Thinline version (published by Zondervan) could be just right for you.
This Bible breaks all the rules of what the ridiculous stereotype of Bible a real Christian would want that stereotype supposedly being a BIG Bible, with a library worth of notes, and no thumb indexes because only baby Christians need those. Well, I actually like what this edition of the NIV offers: just a basic Bible!
This new Thinline version doesnt come with all the bells and whistles of more hefty study Bibles. Instead, at the front of this version you get a table of contents, followed by an alphabetical order of the books of the Bible and then a preface, and in the back of this edition all you get is a one-page table of weights and measures. In between all this, you get a basic Bible with some footnotes being the only intrusion to the scriptures themselves.
I love that!
In my opinion, I think we stuff Bibles with so much that is extra-biblical that people can become confused sorting notes from the scriptures themselves. This NIV Thinline is less than one inch thick and delivers to you the scriptures from Genesis to Revelation in a new, easy-to-read font made for this Bible. Yes, the words of Jesus are in red (another thing some pridefully complain about, although it makes it easy for readers to be sure to know when Jesus is speaking), includes two attached ribbons to mark your spot to come back to, and offers thumb-indexing to make finding your way through the different books of the Bible easier.
So, this newly released NIV Thinline gives you all you need a basic Bible! in a lightweight version thats small enough, and light enough to tote around anywhere.
Yes, there is one however for me, one thing about this version I dont like: it comes in bonded leather, at least the copy provided to me by the publisher did. I, personally, dont buy bonded leather Bibles because it has been my experience the bonded leather along the spine will crack and fail with heavy usage. At least, thats what has happened with bonded leather Bibles Ive owned. If youre reading and studying your Bible daily (we all should be!), then its worth paying extra for a leather-like or real leather cover Bible for greater durability.
But if you like the NIV translation, this new Thinline Bible is perfect for carrying with you so you can read or study the scriptures in different settings without hundreds or thousands of notes, maps, and references to distract you.
I received this book free from the publisher in exchange for this review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. HeidiMarie5 Stars Out Of 5Great for on-the-goDecember 8, 2017HeidiMarieQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The NIV Thinline Bible from Zondervan is the perfect Bible to take with you on the go. It is thin and very light, with no study materials included. This would be a good Bible to take with you to church or to a Bible study.
There are thumb tabs along the sides, so you can easily flip to the right spot. There is a red ribbon bookmark attached. The cover is a soft, black leather. The Bible comes with a small box to keep your Bible safe, perfect for throwing it into your purse or your bag when you're on the go.
I would give this 5/5 stars, and I'd recommend it if you are looking for a Bible to take with you.

Andrew WenclIndianapolis, INAge: 18-24Gender: male4 Stars Out Of 5A few unique featuresNovember 10, 2017Andrew WenclIndianapolis, INAge: 18-24Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4I recently received the NIV Thinline Bible from Zondervan for review. There are already plenty of good reviews out available from scholars, pastors, and others in ministry on the NIV translation itself. Here I'm focusing on a few unique features of this edition (ISBN 978-0-310-44877-8).
Words of Jesus in red
This feature doesn't impress me, and I'm glad fewer Bibles have it. Setting Jesus' words apart by using a different color creates an artificial distinction between the black ink and the red, as though one were more important than the other. "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness" (2 Tim. 3:16).
Two satin ribbon markers
Most Bibles have one ribbon marker. Having two allows you to follow a reading plan with simultaneous readings in the Old and New Testaments.
NIV Comfort Print typeface
Zondervan commissioned a new font for the NIV. My initial reaction was discomfort. Although the font itself is very professional looking, its creators opted to not connect the lines in all the letters. Lowercase a, b, d, e, and more leave a tiny gap where the letter normally would close the loop. It looks distracting, but I didn't notice any problems when I sat down to read with it.
It's nice to have a good quality Bible for private reading and use at church. It's leather, indexed, and easy to read, all things considered.
TimIllinoisAge: 45-54Gender: Male5 Stars Out Of 5NIV Thinline BibleNovember 6, 2017TimIllinoisAge: 45-54Gender: MaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This bible contains no groundbreaking features. It is the text of the NIV with the standard textual footnotes one would expect of an NIV bible. This version is thumb indexed to help quickly locate the books of the bible.
One interesting feature is there are two ribbon markers which are different colors. I have seen bibles with two markers before, but they tend to be one color. This is handy if you are marking two different passages and want to be able to turn to one specifically before the other. As a preacher, this feature is indeed a nice one. I frequently use more than one passage of Scripture during a message and this will help get the right one with a bit more ease. Not a super important feature, but a nice one nonetheless.
There are no maps or concordance in this bible, only a table in the back with weights and measures. This being a thinline bible, it is more about portability than study features I believe. This version is bonded leather and has a lay-flat spine both features are nice for speaking publicly.
The font is called a comfort print, but in reality it is a 9.4 font size which is pretty much standard size. Perhaps a fraction larger than most thinline bibles, but not a significant amount. It is readable, but not really as large as I require for preaching.
I received a copy of this from BookLook Bloggers for free in exchange for a review of the product. The review was not required to be positive and the thoughts expressed are my own.
