AJM3 Stars Out Of 5Good Bible, Bad DescriptionOctober 22, 2015AJMQuality: 3Value: 4Meets Expectations: 3This review reflects the merits of the physical Bible, and is not an assessment of the translation.
Single column is well formatted on the page, words are crisp, and pages are of decent thickness. Everything inside the two covers meets expectation.
However, the cover itself took me off guard. I specifically ordered this copy because I liked the brown version. When I received the Bible, the box did indeed say brown, but if someone were to ask me what color the Bible was, brown wouldn't even be an option. The Bible I received is, quite simply, burgandy, and all those who I've shown have agreed. Aside from this, there were some picks in the cover sewing, but nothing too big.
Overall, it is a nice Bible for the price and is formatted well. It's just not brown. So, if the color is an issue, I would not recommend.
Matt MAge: 25-34Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5Great Edition of the 2011 NIVJune 20, 2012Matt MAge: 25-34Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I am very pleased with this edition.
The covers are decent, but the text block it sewn which really adds to the longevity and quality. The bible is a nice size as well at about 6"x9."
The text layout is nice. The update NIV is laid out in a readable single column format, with plenty of margin on the inside and outside of the text so it does curve into the gutter...this also means there is plenty of room to make notes.
The paper is reasonably thick, and I would say that the ghosting is better than average.
In all a very readable single column with minimal distractions...my only complaint would be that I would like the text a touch larger but it is perfectly readable as is.
Kevin Grady5 Stars Out Of 5Awesome BibleMay 31, 2012Kevin GradyQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5As a pastor, I own a lot of Bibles. I have been looking for a Single Column NIV for awhile and when this came out, I had to get it. First of all, I love the cover. It is not real leather, but feels nice to the touch and very soft. It has a very old look to it, but I love that the cover is not stiff as so many Duo Tones can be. Inside the font is very easy to read for my 57 yr old eyes, so I had no problems reading it. Also I love that the text is in the middle of the page and there is about an inch and a half margin around it. Easy for you to put notes along the pages on either side. Also the text is black letter which I prefer. I know some people think the red letter is holy or something but that was not even added to the Bible until 1900. The problem with red letter is that some of the Bibles are printed so light, I can not read it. Those that have more of a brick red color is fine, but red or light red is just too difficult for my eyes. The paper is very good and not much bleed through and writing notes should not be a problem. Now if you are a Bible marker, like I am, I use the Crayola Twistables pencils. I have no problems doing a light underline and it will not bleed through no matter the paper. This is now the Bible I will be teaching out of. It is a bigger and heavier then the thinline Bibles, but it is a good size for me and again, easy on the eyes. Wonderful Bible and you can not beat the price.
Q: Is it possible to be able to see what the text layout looks like? Would like to know if the layout is the same as the reference edition just without the references? Is the text layout stretched from end to end, or is there a blank column where the references use to be?
Yes, the layout is exactly the same as the reference version of this Bible, but the column where the references would be is blank. You can see an example of this in the excerpt of CBD stock #WW442527.
Q: Text layout According to the answer from the previous question, does this mean it is a "wide-margin" Bible?
There is no indication that this is a wide-margin Bible.
Q: what is the font size?
This Bible features 8 point text.
