When life gets busy it is often our time with God that gets pushed aside to make room for everything else. Thats not how its supposed to be, but it happens all too often. Finding a few quiet moments in the midst of lifes chaos should be our top priority. The NIV Lifehacks Bible: Practical Tools for Successful Spiritual Habits is a Bible that will help you to use your Bible study time more efficiently and effectively.

The NIV Lifehacks Bible: Practical Tools for Successful Spiritual Habits is a Bible designed to help with your Spiritual Formation. This Bible focuses on ways to integrate these disciplines like prayer and scripture understanding into our hearts and mind so that we can be more like Christ.

This bible contains over 1000 tips and suggestions to aid in your spiritual growth. The goal is that you will find at least eight things to apply to your life, in each of the eight categories of spiritual formation that are listed on page 1369. By applying these habits daily and with Gods help, they are enough to change your life forever.

The layout of the pages is similar to other study Bibles I have had in the past. Scattered throughout the Bible are articles that focus on a particular habit. They each have title, scripture reference, habit, tip and the article itself. At the end of each article is a short practical takeaway and instructions on where to find your next reading.

The Bible is hardcover which will help it stand up to daily use. I personally find the pages thin, making them less than ideal to highlight important passages. The font is sharp and clear making it easy to read.

In the back of the Bible you will find some excellent indexes that will help you on your journey. There is an index of Readings by Habit, a Subject Index and a series of maps. The Bible also contains a suggested reading plan that will guide you through the Bible in one year.

The NIV Lifehacks Bible: Practical Tools for Successful Spiritual Habits is a Bible designed to help guide you through your spiritual life. It is a Bible that you can revisit at different times of your life and you will find something new to discover.

    Practical & transformative

The NIV Lifehacks Bible is unlike many of the study Bibles out there. It's not a commentary type Bible, nor is it a devotional with personal human-interest stories to draw relevance with the readers. This Lifehacks Bible focuses not on scholarly insights, but on the spiritual transformation from the truth of the Bible. The notes provided by Joe Carter, have an "eternally significant, focus and purpose: to explain and illuminate what Scripture says about spiritual formation and to provide practical tips, techniques and suggestions to help develop those life-changing habits in your own life." (intro) And with that said, I believe the 365 articles throughout the Bible provides a good grasp on the practical ways to follow the teachings in the Bible. Not to say it replaces what the Bible itself says, but take it as a cliff note version of specific disciplines. For example, one of the articles is "How to pray like David," giving a brief description of who David is and a Biblical passage to read, and then listed 3 ways we can learn to model David's prayer life. There are quite a few "how tos," but there are also many "whats and what is". At the end of each article, there is a simple sentence as the "practical takeaway," providing readers the gist of what the article is meant to explicate.

Visually, the hardcover and personal size makes it easy to carry. The beginning of the Bible, beside the typical table of contents listing the Books of the Bible in order, it also includes a list of the Books of the Bible in alphabetical order, a "Bible in a Year" chart (always love those), and a directory of all articles in alphabetical order. In the back, the "Study Helps" section includes a table of weights & measures (very useful!), the endnotes, a subject index and an index to readings by habit (practical lifehacks). Also, I appreciate the full color maps in the back as well. The fonts are a good size and easy to read. Being the New International Version, it's a widely used version due to its easy to comprehend translations. The pages are so white, with lettering all in black, I almost want to highlight and start marking this Bible up to give it some differentiation for easier read and favorite passages to "pop".

In all, informative and practical, with ways to deepen your knowledge of certain Biblical references, as well as providing tools for spiritual habits that's transformative. If you're stuck or not sure how to apply Biblical principles, check out the NIV Lifehacks Bible. It might be one way to help you.

Excellent Bible for Developing Spiritual Habits

"When you rise in the morning, nearly half of your day will be determined by the patterns youve either intentionally created or passively allowed. Theres no avoiding it: the patterns we cultivate shape the person we each become."

I cannot stress enough the importance of developing habits that allow God to shape us into becoming more like Jesus. This LifeHacks Bible will be especially helpful for those looking to develop spiritual habits to grow in their relationship with God. I would give this 5 stars. I was pleasantly surprised when I read through the articles found in this Bible. This bible contains the most exhaustive compilation of spiritual practices, disciplines and habits I have seen. As a pastor who has read dozens of books on this subject, the material contained in this new LifeHacks Bible would fill several books with applicable information to be put into practice. It contains over 1,000 tips and suggestions designed to help the reader become more like Jesus. This covers over 30 different spiritual habits and eight different categories of spiritual formation. Each entry ends with practical suggestions for how to apply these habits to your life.

Carter has done well to place the articles on spiritual habits throughout this version of the Bible. The original text is kept in tact for those wondering but the articles are inserted at key points throughout the Bible. It appears to me that alot of intentionality was put into placing the articles in the spots where they are located. Also I really appreciate how Carter has placed articles that help the reader see Jesus throughout the entire Bible including articles such as "Seeing Jesus in Proverbs". We often forget the entire Bible is about Jesus (Lk 24:27) so seeing articles that point us back to Him during our reading is helpful in applying the whole Bible to our spiritual life.

All articles are sorted easily with an alphabetical reference list of them at the front of the Bible and a topical reference list of them toward the back. Plus the articles even tell you which page number to turn to if wanting to jump to the next one.

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from the publisher through the BookLook Blogger book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. I love the idea of 365 articles, or hacks, for each day of the year. An interesting addition to Bible study. I found myself reading not just the Scriptures mentioned but the entire chapter or more to keep it in context. Loved it!

Though not attractive - a good study or devotional Bible

Though not attractive, this Bible is a useful. Fitting someplace between a Study Bible (given its own description) and a Devotional Bible (given its contents), this Bible focuses on the spiritual disciplines that will move the reader closer to God. It does not contain study or devotional noted keyed to the texts where a passage is found. Rather, it provides a wide range of tools that can be used by both the new believer and the established Christian to draw near to our Lord and Savior. Here are five very random selections from the 365 entries included in the book:

    4 Tips for Reading Prophesy

5 Skills for Sharing Gods Word

When Youve Made a Vow to God

    Pray with ACTS

    What Is Biblical Faith?

An alphabetical list of all these short essays can be found at the beginning of the book. Also included in the front pages is a plan for reading through the entire Bible in a year.

What adds additional value to this edition is the inclusion of two indexes. The first is typical Subject Index which points the reader to key scripture references dealing with important topics. The second index points the readers to the included articles which highlight the various spiritual disciplines discussed.

My biggest concern is the lack of any color in the body of the book. If the editor had found time to add some color to the pages (e.g. Each essay could have a different font or background color depending on the spiritual discipline it addresses) the book would be more attractive. With exception of the cover, the entire book is black and white. Even the addition of a color dot (or square, like is seen on the front cover) to indicate the notes theme would be of help.

The Bible would be a welcome addition to a pastors or laymans library. This Bible would also be a suitable graduation gift for the high school, college, or seminary, graduate. I could also see giving this as a Fathers Day gift. Or add it to your own library as an encouragement for your own spiritual growth.
