I started to read this as a daily devotional and found reading the "Backstory", "God's Story", the scripture and the your story section tends to give meaning to how the scripture fits into God's Story and how it applies to me. Therefore I usually end up reading more than one section at a sitting. I have been a Christian for nearly 60 years and have read the Bible and many devotional Bible studies and find this to be among the best.

Leading a church through THE STORY is an exciting process. As part of the package of books I purchased this thinking I was really "going deeper." Expecting perhaps at least a light weight exegetical commentary, or historical background for the portions of the Bible covered by THE STORY. What you get is 20 some pages of preface which contains some very general Bible background material. and a full NIV bible.

Even worse, anyone who has ever really studied the Bible will get a good chuckle out of the fact that they literally and seriously attribute the authorship of the Pentateuch to Moses. (really?) From there on it is impossible to take anything included in the book introductions seriously.

I can't recommend this book at all. There are better versions of the NIV available. I will be returning my copy.
