This summer the new movie Finding Dory seems to be on the must see list for most families. With eight grandkids of my own I can assure you it is on our to-do list as well. I'm sure it is going to be a wonderful movie that will take us all into the colorful undersea world. After watching the movie I'm also sure that my grands will be enamored with all things Dory.

To me this is the perfect time to capitalize on their fascination with all the sea creatures by introducing them to the Creator of this underwater world. Zonderkidz has just released a new children's Bible that focuses on sea life. It uses the NIrV translation which is designed for a third grade reading level. The sentences and word structure are simplified without loosing the correct translation. I have come to appreciate this as my grands have become readers. It gives them such a sense of accomplishment to be able to read the Bible on their own.

There are several inserts that have beautiful illustrations and break down specific scripture like "the love chapter" (1 Corinthians 13:1-13), The Lord's Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13), and the 10 Commandments (Exodus 20:1-17 and Deuteronomy 5:7-21).

My favorite interactive portion in this children's Bible is titled "Famous Children Of The Bible". The section gives a hint or clue about a particular boy(s) or girl(s) then it gives the Scripture reference where the answer can be found. As a former homeschooling momma this is right up my alley! You could easily make a game out of this that would be a learning opportunity disguised as a fun activity.

I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.

Ready to dive into the Bible with a catchy Under the Sea Theme? Zonderkidz has come up with one, a beautiful hardback Bible geared for children aged six to ten. The cover itself is really eye catching with lots of brightly colored, glittery ocean life and fish. The translation is one made for kids, too. It is the New International Reader's Version or NlrV, the NIV for kids.

When this Bible is first opened, there is a beautiful presentation page made of heavy weight paper. It is colorful, and contains more ocean-theme characters. The back of the page contains all the books of the Bible, along with ocean-life decorations.

What this Bible has to offer for children is very appealing. There are three special sections geared toward children, and they are one page each. Each of those pages, front and back, are incredibly cute with lots of eye appeal, and contain things geared just for kids. Those pages, which are full color and made of heavy weight paper, contain:

    - Prayer Is...

    - The Lord's Prayer

    - Ten Commandments For Kids (Based on Exodus 20:1-17 and Deuteronomy 5:7-21)

    - Love Passage For Kids (Based on 1 Corinthians 13)

    - Famous Children Of The Bible

    - The ABCs Of Becoming A Christian

At the back of the volume, there is a list of Great Bible Stories along with a Bible Dictionary, but those are not printed on the special heavy-weight paper. There are no other pictures, maps or other supplemental material included in this Bible. Also, other than the presentation page along with the three special page inserts, the type of paper used for this Bible is the regular, very thin, onion-skin type of paper used in traditional Bibles. My concern is that six to ten year-old-fingers might have trouble turning those pages without tearing them.

Zonderkidz has done lots of things right in this Bible. They have kept it affordable with a suggested price of $24.99. Having a special version of the text geared towards children is also a wonderful idea. The cover is amazing, and the three supplemental pages are eye catching, and wonderfully creative, but that is where things stop. Since this is geared towards children, I would have liked to have seen at least six to nine or more "special" colorful pages in this Bible, along with a least one colorful map--more would be even better. There is a lot that is good in this 4 star Bible, but I think a little bit more would have made this a great Bible for children.

The publisher has provided bookreadingtic with a complimentary copy of The Under the Sea Holy Bible, through Zondervan Publishing for the purpose of review. I have not been compensated in any other manner. All opinions expressed are my own, and I was not required, or influenced, to give anything but an honest appraisal. Memorizing Bible verses is something that I did as a child, and its something that my children are now doing. I remember struggling through the King James Version (KJV) and finally learning them from the New International Version (NIV). I was thrilled to learn about the New International Readers Version which is based on the NIV.

Under The Sea Holy Bible is ZonderKidz latest edition of the Bible for you younger readers. This Bible contains the complete text from Genesis to Revelation and is the New International Readers Version. It is geared to children between the ages of 6-10. It has a beautifully illustrated hard cover. The fish and sparkles make it attractive to children.

I am not familiar with the NIrV version of the Bible, but I have grown up with the NIV. The NIrV is based on the NIV Bible and uses that text where it could. When the words in the NIV were to long or difficult to understand they used shorter and more easily understood words which is helpful to younger readers.

The text changes can be seen in John 3:16.

    The NIV version reads as:

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,

that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

    John 3:16

    The NIrV reads as:

God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son.

Anyone who believes in him will not die but will have eternal life.

    John 3:16

None of the meaning of the verse has been lost, but you can see that it is broken down into shorter sentences and easier vocabulary. This makes it easier to understand and remember.

Under The Sea Holy Bible has a wonderful hardcover which makes it sturdy to carry around, but I find the pages very thin. You can actually see the text on the reverse side of the page. I do have my concerns about how well the pages would stand up to younger children or for people who like to highlight special passages.

Each chapter is divided into shorter sections with clear titles. They have also done things like removed the word Selah from the Psalms as the Hebrew meaning of this word isnt clear. I am not a Biblical scholar so I can not say how this change affects the meaning of the text. For my children at their ages, the removal of this world helps make the Psalms easier to read and understand. Sometimes the writers of the Bible have used more than one name for the same person or place, the NIrV version uses the most familiar name everywhere it would appear.

The Bible has a few special colour pages that are appealing for younger children. They cover topics like the Books of the Bible, Prayer is, The Lords Prayer, the Ten Commandments for Kids. The Back of the Bible contains a Dictionary and an index of Great Bible Stories.

Since this is a Bible children or new readers I would have like to see a reference at the beginning of each Book of the Bible explaining the Who, What, When, Where and Why that I have found in other versions.

Under The Sea Holy Bible wouldnt be my first choice as a Bible for my children as it lacks some of the extra study guides that I have become accustomed to. I would still keep it on my shelf though as it would be my choice of Bible to use in conjunction with our devotionals because of its simpler text.

Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of Under The Sea Holy Bible in exchange for my review. All opinions are 100% my own.

Every child loves to read a Bible that is colorful, exciting, and made just for his growing mind and faith. There are many options available, but the NIV Under The Sea Holy Bible is one that stands above them all.

As The NIV Under The Sea Holy Bible is handed over into the possession of a child, there will be immediate signs of joy. Their eyes will catch the colorful, textured, under the sea cover, and they will gasp with elation. Their little fingers will rub across the textured area as their hearts fill with glee.

When they finally begin to turn the inner pages and enter into the Word of God, they will be met with the ever popular, easy to read and understand, New International Readers Version. It comes packed with a dictionary and quick references to great Bible stories. This Bible is fun, exciting, and perfect for any young child beginning their in depth study of God's Word; thus it is recommended purchase.

This is a very eye catching cover. It reminds me of The Disney cartoon movie Finding Nemo. I do think the bright colors and cartoons would appeal to children as this is designed for ages 6 to 10. It comes in hardback which means it will also be very durable which is usually a plus for this age range.

As you open the book the first page is a colorful presentation page and on the flip side a colorful bookshelf with the books of both the old and new testament. Each book is written on the spine of the book and categorized by what each section teaches. For instance, the first five books of the old testament are listed under law whereas the next 12 books are listed under history.

There is a table of contents, an alphabetical order listing for the books of the bible, and a brief introduction about the New International Reader's Version.

    There are three colorful inserts.

The first is designed to explain what prayer is and how to go about praying. On the back is the Lord's prayer and explains that Jesus taught us to pray by example.

The second colorful insert is the ten commandments for kids. It is written in easy to understand language that's appropriate for children. On the back is Love Passages for kids which is based on 1 Corinthians 13 with again easy to understand language.

The third colorful insert talks about famous children in the bible and what books you can find their stories in. On the back is listed the ABCs of Becoming A Christian.

At the end of the bible you will find a dictionary to the New International Reader's Version.

Lastly there's a list of great bible stories with what books each story is located.

If you have a young child who enjoys the ocean and sea life then this would be a perfect gift. All throughout the bible it's self is easy to read and understand for a child. I think the biggest plus is that it's so easy to understand. Many children can read, but can they comprehend what they are reading. It appears to be written like a story which will pull a child's interest in. The pages are thin, but then again all bible pages are thin. The size would fit easily into a child's hand for reading or carrying around.

I do think this would be a perfect gift for a child. Yes, the younger (age 6) might need assistance in exactly how to use it at first, but it would still be a great gift.
