My husband and I were given this drvotional about 6 or 7 years ago as a gift. We loved it and benefited from it so much that we actually have gone through the book two times! We recently purchased this book for the couples attending our church's annual couple's retreat. It is a great tool for building strong marriages!
My husband and I have never had devotions together as a couple. We decided to give this book a try and we really enjoyed it! The discussion questions at the end are wonderful. I think after several years of marriage, there is a danger of thinking you already know your spouse completely. These questions helped us to know one another better and know how to best pray for one another.
This is a useful tool for helping couples communicate with each other. It's short enough that it holds my husbands attention, and the questions at the bottom really open up some good discussions. My husband was not very excited at first, but now looks forward to our devotional time each evening.
I usually love Dobson's materials. This was recommended to us by a friend. We gotten about 10 days into this and have 2 suggestions. Use the book closer to dinnertime rather than bedtime because the discussions can reveal your differences and if you are tired and have limited time the discussion can reveal more tensions rather than increase intimacy. I am not a fan of pre-written prayers, so the 2-line prayer suggestion at the end of the devotional is not useful. Maybe we will get farther into the book and appreciate it more, but I think the idea of a deep discussion right before bedtime is not going to help with intimacy.
