I avoid "inspirational" books because, in their worthiness, they rarely reflect reality as I experience it. This is different. This is the story of a real person, not a bad person, but troubled and failing at life, whose encounter with the Holy Spirit literally saves him...this book is a worthwhile read.

Author/Artist Review

Author: Greg R Elliott
Located in: Ontario, Canada
Submitted: December 18, 2014

Tell us a little about yourself.  The author is now a long time, happily married father of three. In the early years, he worked in an automotive supplies store and drove school buses by day while attending art school at night. His career began as a sign painter, leading to becoming a museum designer for the Ontario provincial government. He started his own graphic studio and for many years painted custom cars and outdoor murals; worked as a contract art director for public relations and advertising agencies and illustrated children’s books. After closing his studio he served as the director of media services for The Gideons International in Canada.

What was your motivation behind this project?   I once thought of the Bible as a book of antiquities suitable for collecting dust on a shelf in the fiction department of a library. At the same time, my life seemed out of control and that unidentified spot deep within me was crying desperately for a new life. Circumstances pushed my nose into a Bible. Now I see it as a very relevant time traveller, where I met God and found my new life. I want to let other men know that it’s possible and share with them how it happened for me.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  I didn’t start out to write a book. Before reluctantly starting on my trip through the Bible, I was advised to keep notes on what I thought or felt about what I was reading. Fortunately I did that. In fact I produced a stack of scribbler notebooks before it was over. Later, after my involvement with a church community began, I became involved with men’s small groups. As my own relationship with Jesus matured, I found myself talking with men who were facing problems similar to what I had done and so I was able to help them. This led to a day when I felt a call to lift my experience out of those scribbler notes to share with other men and it became New Life in the Boarding House.
