Probably the best Roman Catholic translation of Scripture. A few of the translations reflect the translators' Catholic beliefs where other English words would be more appropriate. It is also not an evangelical Bible. The use of the Lord's name in place of LORD, as found in almost every English translation, was very refreshing and a reminder that God is personal. The second most useful aspect of this Bible is the inclusion of the Apocrypha (Deutrocanonical books). While not considered Scripture by Protestants, these books are a valuable source of inspiration and intertestamental history. Recommended reading for all Christians.

This is a good translation, though it is decidedly British. It uses "Yahweh" instead of "Lord," which I really like. The prophetic books are written with great feeling; the poetic sounding New Testament passages are printed like poetry. I think it's a great deal for the price.

ALERT!!! When reading this version of the Bible, the reader must be aware that it is a translation of a translation. The original New Jerusalem translation was in FRENCH. It was made by French speaking translators into their native language. Thus, what we read in the English versions of this and the older "Jerusalem Bible" are translations from the French. I noticed that a reviewer said that he classified this version as a "Catholic paraphrase". That statement is NONSENSE. Nevertheless be advised that what we read in English in this translation is itself a translation from modern French.

Excellent translation .... Very readable. I read The Jerusalem Bible over 30 years ago and thought an update was due.
