Two murders have rocked the city of Houston. Are they the work of a serial killer, or is a copycat trying to get away with murder?
That is the question facing Special Agent Bethany Sanchez, who is eager for her new assignment in violent crimes but anxious about meeting her new partner. Special Agent Thatcher Graves once arrested her brother, and he has a reputation for being a maverick. When hot leads soon fizzle out, their differences threaten to leave them deadlocked. But an attempt on their lives turns up the heat and brings them closer together, and a third victim might yield the clue that will help them zero in on a killer. This could be the case of their careers . . . if they can survive long enough to solve it.

Special Agent Thatcher Graves once arrested her brother, and he has a reputation for being a maverick. Plus, their investigative styles couldnt be more opposite: he operates on instinct, while she goes by the book.

They have to work together to solve two homicides that appear to be the work of a serial killer. I thought this book was good, and the storyline kept the reader guessing as the to the identity of the killer. I enjoyed seeing several characters from previous books in the series make an appearance.
Ashley's Bookshelf5 Stars Out Of 5Great SuspenseOctober 13, 2016Ashley's BookshelfQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0This one caught my attention from the start and kept it the whole way through. I liked Bethany and Thatcher. They were mismatched, but yet a good fit. I wanted to know from the start, and just couldn't figure out who the murderer was. I thought I had it figured out a couple of times but nope!
Thea author added some very real violence and touchy subjects but I thought she handled them really well. For me this was a book that I did not want to put down. If it had been possible, I would have devoured it in one sitting. Mills just flat out knows how to write romantic suspense!
It is a keeper. 5/5.

Mrs ARS5 Stars Out Of 5Great read for fans of crime showsMay 29, 2016Mrs ARSQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I enjoyed reading Deadlock by DiAnn Mills greatly. It is the story of Special Agent Bethany Sanchez of the FBI and her new partner Special Agent Thatcher Graves as they investigate the murder of Alicia Javon. In order to do this they must first determine whether the murder was simply made to resemble another murder that took place three weeks prior, but actually has no connection with it whatsoever (as Bethany believes); or if it is the work of a serial killer (as Thatcher believes). These agents must learn to overcome their differences in order to solve this murder, but it might just be impossible for them to do this because they have so many. Bethany is analytical and by the book, Thatcher is a maverick and prefers to follow his gut instinct; however, they do try their hardest to overcome these differences which I found rather refreshing. Often when you read a book about two characters who do not like each other they try their best to be a hindrance to the other, but that was not the case in this book as Bethany and Thatcher really do try their best to work together and be good partners.
The one problem I had with this story is that the dialogue was rather spontaneous. The characters will randomly go from discussing one thing to suddenly changing the subject and talking about something totally different. I understand that Thatcher is a very spontaneous character and so would probably speak in this way, but I still found it a little hard to follow at some parts.
On a whole I really liked this book. I found it interesting and suspenseful. It also put me in the mind of the TV show Forever and believe that fans of Forever would probably enjoy this book (I know I did).
I received a copy for an honest review from The Book Club Network, Inc. and the opinions are my own honest ones.
RachelGender: Female4 Stars Out Of 5Good BookMay 13, 2016RachelGender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4Bethany Sanchez and Thatcher Graves are the two main characters in Deadlock. They have become partners in the FBI, after Bethany had transferred to violent crime from another department. There have been two killings within just a couple of days. Bethany and Thatcher have two different ways of solving crime, therefore they have a hard time getting along and agreeing at first.
This is the third book in this series, but its a stand alone, you can read it without reading the other two books. The author does a great job with the plot and suspense. She also does good making it a faith based book. One thing I didn't really like about the book was that in the beginning Bethany and Thatcher were very condescending towards each other, neither of them wanting to consider the others thoughts or ideas on how to solve the killings. Although I think it does get better as you go through the book they aren't as bad and realize they have to compromise and look outside of their own box to see a bigger picture.
Thank you to TBCN and the publisher for the opportunity to review this book. a positive review was not required.
TellNJasmineMontanaAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Will they be too late?May 12, 2016TellNJasmineMontanaAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 4Meets Expectations: 5I've really been enjoying the FBI: Houston series but I think Deadlock is my favorite so far. More danger, more romance, more of DiAnn Mills's great storytelling.
Deadlock is a fairly thick book but it didn't take me long to finish, I think those pages must have been smoking I was turning them so fast! I just couldn't seem to put it down, I HAD to know what would happen next and if my guess on the identity of the mastermind was right or not.
Out of all the leading characters in this series I think Bethany and Thatcher are my favorites. They both have some very real struggles and I loved watching their faith change and grow.
I love suspense and mystery and read as many Christian ones as I can get hold of. DiAnn Mills is one of those authors that I will read the book just based on seeing her name on the cover. I really enjoy her brand of romantic suspense and Deadlock is a wonderful example.
If you love suspense and want a gripping read with some intriguing characters you won't want to miss this great story from DiAnn Mills!
