I have ready several of Melody's books and they are well written. This one is an interesting story about a young woman (Tia) who works in the family restaurant. She is called away to stay with a relative to start up a business venture.

The business idea itself was exciting. Tia is a trained chef and is asked to help turn a ship into a destination restaurant. I enjoyed reading about the ship, the cooking, and all the planning and work that was involved.

Tia meets a young man (who was a former acquaintance) who helps with the ship project. It's nice to get to know the different characters in the story and their family and home lives.

I appreciate that people go to church in this story. There are some people in the book who drink, but it is a minor aspect of the story.

Overall, the setting and story line all made it an entertaining read. I really think it would make a good Hallmark movie.

You can always count on Melody Carlson taking you to unusual places and circumstances in her novels. And that's what I love about them! When I get one of her books in my hands I instantly think where are we going and what will we be doing?

This time around we travel to San Francisco with Tia D'Amico. Tia has been working in her family restaurant for years and is dying to break out of her shell. She loves her family but after culinary school she is wanting to spread her wings and fly. As it turns out her aunt has purchased a luxury yacht and wants to turn it into a very upscale floating restaurant. She needs a chef and Tia is thrilled to join her from the ground floor up.

Of course it wouldn't be a Melody Carlson novel without a bit of romance thrown in. Many years ago Tia had come out to San Francisco to attend a sailing camp. She was shy and awkward as many teens are. But she met a boy at this camp named Leo who was kind and seemed to look beyond her awkwardness. Tia had wondered what happened to him over the years but the two had just gone their separate ways.

Imagine Tia's delight when she finds out that the Leo of her young dreams is to be the captain of the ship. This is shaping up to be a wonderful new adventure, that is until Tia meets the other woman in Leo's life. In other stories it would be over and time to move on. But Melody's stories not only contain romance they also tend to incorporate a bit of intrigue as well. And that's the part that makes the story come alive.

If you enjoy houseboats and yacht and lots of delicious food you need to pick this book up. It is a nice little escape from the ordinary (unless you live on a houseboat). I think you'll find the characters to be authentic and likable and the setting is one we all dream about.

I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.

    ★ ★ ★

Fresh out of culinary school, Tia D'amico is excited to be moving out to San Francisco, California to help her aunt turn a vintage luxury yacht into a floating restaurant. Tias aunt has grand plans to turn the aging vessel into the best event cruise ship in the Bay Area! Sadly, right before Tias arrival her uncle is rushed to the hospital with heart trouble. Turns out hes looking at a major blockage, requiring bypass surgery. That means Tia will largely be left on her own to manage the boat renovations while her aunt stays at the hospital. Shes not completely alone though. Serving as the ships captain is young Leo Parker, a guy Tia originally met at a sailing camp when they were teenagers. In fact, her last memory of him was when he gave her a brief kiss before walking out of her life for good (so it seemed then).

Briefly emotionally sidelined at running into this blast from her past, Tias emotions quickly turn to excitement at the possibility of getting to know Leo again as an adult. Until Leo says the dreaded line, Id like you to meet my fiancee. Bubble officially bursted.

No surprise though, Leos fiancee is the polar opposite of him and seems completely wrong for him. Everyone sees it except him (isnt that always the way). He cant figure out why he has to work so hard to make the relationship work and doesnt seem all that into the idea of being eternally bound to this woman. He admits feeling pressured to advance the relationship but now doesnt know how to bow out gracefully. In comes Tia as the shoulder to cry on and its not to hard to guess where the story goes from there.

While the friendship between Leo and Tia was definitely cute, their growing flirtation didnt leave me all that swoony. I think I was largely distracted by being hung up on the idea that these are supposed to be college graduates but they still talk like theyre 14-15 years old. Instead of feeling like grown-ups, these characters, to me, came off as playing at adulting. And Tia, almost immediately out of the gate pining away for Leo. Seriously, girl? Youre that emotionally broken up to the point of shedding tears over a guy who gave you one quick kiss way back when you were 16?! Seems a bit dramatic. Bummed, sure, I can understand that. But heartbroken?! Girl needs to get centered in life.

So I wasnt too moved by the romance here, but the friendships and family dynamic was entertaining enough to keep me reading to the end (these books are pretty short anyway). I did like this addition to the Follow Your Heart series a good bit more than the first book, but Im still not feeling quite enough heart in Carlsons characters (at least for this series). She crafts fun settings for them to work and live in an NYC boutique hotel in Book 1, a floating restaurant yacht in San Francisco Bay here but something about her characterizations remains too flat for me. That being said, this one showed strong potential for the series to increasingly improve with each book, however many that ends up being. The first one I only gave 2.5 stars, this one got a 3.5 out of me. Anything 3.5 or higher from me I consider solid recommended reading territory :-)

Enjoyed this book. It was well written and I fell in love with Tia and Leo. The characters were well developed. The only negative complaint I had was the absence of a Christian thread that would make this a Christian Fiction book. It was clean however.

I grew up being an avid Melody Carlson fan and read every book that she put out. As I have grown older, not much has changed and I continue to enjoy reading her books. However, her last couple books have not been my favorite, and this is one of them. While I still enjoyed reading her books, this was not one of my favorites. All Summer Long seemed to be too unbelievable in many respects for me and the romantic aspect was most difficult to handle for me. While Tia and Leo were once infatuated with each other, they have grown apart and Leo is with someone else. I did not like how this was handled and I thought it was too cookie cutter of an answer that was given. What I did enjoy was the idea of Tia being a chef and I loved learning more about cooking and what it takes to prepare a restaurant. While the reviewers on the back of the book have suggested that this is a perfect summer read, I have to disagree. Melody has written many more books that I thing are phenomenal and worth dedicating your free time to! This book in my opinion is a 3/5 stars.

This book as provided to me by Revell Publishers one change for my honest opinion.
