Mari's older sister Crystal is getting married, and Mari is one of her bridesmaids - actually, the last in a lineup of five bridesmaids, but that doesn't really bother her. Much. But Sienna Jameson as the maid of honor? Really? She might be Crystal's best friend, but she's ditzy and undependable on her best days. When the best man turns out to be hunky Derrick Richardson, the right fielder for the Houston Astros and one of Houston's most eligible bachelors, Sienna abandons her duties as maid of honor to chase Derrick, and it's up to Mari to make sure Crystal's wedding day goes off without a hitch.

Series: Year of Weddings
Theyve helped orchestrate the perfect day for countless couples. Now twelve new couples will find themselves in the wedding spotlight in the second Year of Weddings novella collection.
Mari wants her sister Crystals wedding to be perfect. But a poorly-chosen maid of honor may turn it into a disaster.
Mari Hayss older sister Crystal is getting married, and Mari is ecstatic to be part of the wedding. But she soon finds her expected role of maid of honor has been delegated to the worst possible choice: Sienna Jameson. Shes catty, selfish, and totally into herself, and when Sienna discovers handsome professional baseball player Derrick Richardson is the best man, she sets her sights on her next boyfriend instead of on the wedding plans.
Meanwhile, Mari is determined to keep the glamorous event afloat. Wrapped up in dress fittings, bridal showers, and baking teacup-shaped cookies, she is shocked when Derrick has taken notice of her. In fact, he treats her like shes a home run.
With the wedding day looming, an emotional and sensitive sister, a selfish maid of honor, and intense pressure from Crystals soon-to-be in-laws, Mari fears her attempts to make her sisters wedding perfect will be for naught. Can Mari keep the waters calm until the bride and groom jet off for their honeymoon? And will she allow herself to be caught by Houstons most eligible bachelor?
GHott4 Stars Out Of 5Don't MissMay 29, 2015GHottQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0Wow! Its bad enough that Mari isnt chosen by her own sister as the maid of honor but, too find out she was specifically chosen because she was the right height for the fourteen year old groomsman.
Wait! This is about her sister, Crystals, wedding, not her own dreams. Mari can do this. Its not a big deal, right?
What I liked: I really enjoyed Mari. Shes really a great person. She has a servants heart. Shes not thinking about guys. Shes just into being a great child of God and a great family member.
What I didnt like: Honestly what I didnt like was that this is the first book in the entire series that I felt like the cover and title misrepresented the book. It was like the theme was more important than honesty. Sure they were minor details but, they irked me.
Debbie MWisconsinAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5An enjoyable, light readMay 26, 2015Debbie MWisconsinAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This is a book review on "Never a Bridesmaid" by Janice Thompson. I think I have read every book by Janice Thompson. I really enjoy her as an author! It is a good, light read. You know, when times are tough, and you just want to escape? This will fit the bill!
The story starts out, when Mari's sister, Crystal, announces that she is engaged to her socially elite fiance, Phillip. Crystal then announces who is in the line up of bridesmaids, when, Mari, to her horror finds out she is last in the line up. And, double horror, Sienna, who is a ditz, is chosen as the maid of honor! The most prestigious place of honor in a lineup, to also host the bridal shower, bachelorette party, the honor speech, etc., and she gave it to the gal who is so consumed with herself? And, to add insult to injury--lining up the bridal party according to height, leaves Mari matched up with a 14 year old, socially awkward boy.
Enter Derrick Richardson, who is the best man, and baseball player. Mari and Derrick hit it off, and Sienna is positively jealous. Yes, the book is predictable, but it was an enjoyable and entertaining read.
This is a short read, a novella. I wish it would have been longer, but it was a good escape, and fun to read.
Kristieupstate NYAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5sweet, quick readApril 14, 2015Kristieupstate NYAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I am a huge fan of Janice Thompson's writing and I was not disappointed with her novella, "Never a Bridesmaid." Crystal is getting married; however she is not exactly getting the wedding of her dreams. Crystal's future mother-in-law in dictating much of the wedding details and planning including who Crystal's maid of honor is to be. Crystal's sister Mari is a planner, she is used to taking care of details and doing for others. When Crystal becomes engaged Mari assumes that she will naturally be the maid of honor and she is not given this honor or role, she finds herself taking care of the duties that go along with this position as the appointed maid of honor comes up with one excuse after another and is more focused on herself. I really enjoyed this story and found myself empathizing with the sisters throughout this book. How often so many of us are dealing with feeling unappreciated or feeling as if our lives are being dictated for us? Humor and romance are sprinkled throughout this story making this an excellent, quick read to cozy up with.

Becky RNebraskaAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Pure Wedding Fun!April 9, 2015Becky RNebraskaAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0First of all, the title is a bit of a misnomer, as Mari is certainly a bridesmaid. What she is is the last bridesmaidthe one who stands farthest away from the bride. Her frustration as she deals with the hurt of being passed over for maid of honor duties and strives to make her sister's day the best day possible anyway is palpable ... and totally relatable.
Amid the frustration, though, is a lighthearted wedding story that completely fits with the Janice Thompson brand. The romance between Mari and Derrick is sweet, and I also loved the dynamic between Mari and her sister Crystaldespite Crystal's insensitivity toward Mari and her tendency to bow to her future mother-in-law's wishes, she clearly loved Mari, and Mari loved her. Never a Bridesmaid is a great entry in the Year of Weddings series, and fans of wedding stories will love it. 4-1/2 stars.

SuzieNashville, TNAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Loved these charactersApril 9, 2015SuzieNashville, TNAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Mari Hayss excitement at the news of her sisters engagement is quickly extinguished when she learns she will be at the end of a long line of bridesmaids. And whats even worse is Sienna Jameson, the person Crystal has chosen as her maid of honor, is not a good choice. The woman is self-absorbed and not dependable. Determined to help her sister create her dream wedding, Mari puts aside her disappointment and throws herself into dress fittings, cake tasting, and shower planning since Sienna seems to be more interested in capturing the attention of the best man. Mari cant help but admire handsome Derrick Richardson, a professional baseball player, who seems to take an interest in her. Is there a happily ever after in Maris future with this kind-hearted man who knows shes truly the maid of honor?
Ive seen Janic e Thompsons name kicked around a few times on a Christian fiction group on Facebook and I have two of her books loaded on my Kindle but have not yet read them. After reading this novella in the May installment in Zondervans year of wedding series, Im ready to crack one of those open. This story was lighthearted and enjoyable. The scene where Mari is baking cookies with Derrick and his mother is fun and endearing. Written from Maris perspective, the reader gets great insight into both Maris and Crystals past. Im not usually a fan of these books when the two characters are just meeting, but this one was an exception. Maris natural tendency to serve her sister, including talking to her when shes stressed out to the point of wanting to end things, makes her more likable. This one is a keeper!
